Quaker Parrots Forum > Welcome! > Introductions
Jennybird
I am Jennifer, and I just wanted to introduce myself... First off I think I am going to love this site! and I am 15 and for my birthday in about a month (sweet 16) I wanna car, no ,cell phone, no.... ummmm liscence??? (yeah but um no) lol I wanna new parrot!!! (I know bird ppl would hear me out and not LAUGH like my "friends" lol) But for a while I was wanting a conure like crazy green cheeked or sun conure... that is until I was recomended to a quaker... I kinda fell in love with the thought of having one and I am DEFINITELY gonna get advice from people before I jump into it b/c it burns me up to see people even take a goldfish home and let it die due to ignorance... anyways I got a story too and its long lol I am a bird freak anything with feathers, but I was limited to outside birds like chickens and pigeons and peafowl pheasants ducks swans doves ummmmmm quail and turkeys all my life... I have a thing for birds with an attitude... so I got into gamefowl, yeah fighting chickens, but they had a fiery attitude, and good character, and most beautiful poultry in my opinion; basically I loved the challenge of taming them and loving em... I lived with my grandparents since I was four and when grandma died of cancer in october last year I moved in with mama and unfortunately chickens and dogs outside I learned will never mix... sad.gif well the birds are like therapy and always have been when I am stressed b/c even chickens show affection and its cool to have the lil hen fly on ur lap and tell you bout her day and actually fall asleep there or lay an egg lol... and the roosters that talk to you and I even had one that would open his wings and give me "hugs" lol I miss that and I really want at least one feathered buddy... I was told that Quaker parrots are exactly what I am looking for by many people.. they are affectionate but have that sassy firey attitude I look for too... I do realize that its like basically a kid I need to pay a LOT of attention to and I am a pretty devoted person to my birds so I dont think it wil be much of a problem... I just need advice on everything b/c I am a newbie at parrots.. and I would hate to have gotten the little guy and not done him right... I need to figure out a way I can use a lot of time spent with him but you know high school takes up whole day 5 times a week lol... well I am sorry for the REALLY long life story post but I am a forum person and I type a lot I am really excited to have me a new forum other than my chicken ones and would love to meet yall and learn a lot bout QPs so my new "child" will be really happy and love me lol blush.gif oh yeah and sorry again for it being so long

Hi Jennifer.
Welcome to the forum.

You will love having a Quaker in your life, they are the greatest little bird in the world (sori to all the other breeds).

Trawl through all of the forum, you will learn heaps.
There are sections on housing, diet, general chit chat, good things, toxic things, toys etc.
If you have any specific questions just ask.
The experts on this forum will be along soon to help.

Just remember that dogs and Quakers dont mix very well.

Again hello & welcome.
Tricia.

Welcome Jenny,

Sounds like a qp is the bird for you. cool.gif
How does the other family members feel about a parrot in the house?
Will there be someone home durning the day with your baby?
Are you going to get a baby or a rehome?
Will you be going to collage?
qp live I think around 30 years. Thay really can be a handful. I've had mine for three years and he is the love of my life. Well one of them anyway I have a lot of loves. LOL
It sounds like you have a very good way with birds. I love the name little debbie after your grandma. That's so sweet. wub.gif Hope you get a girl.

A Quaker sounds like the bird for you. We call them little green chickens!! LOL

It's great that you are researching before you get one. Sounds like you will make a great parront! Good luck on your search .... check out the rehoming section of the forum .... maybe you will find your feather duster there biggrin.gif

Well I have looked around and there is a breeder bout 2 hours from me I have talked to but I was thinking aout rehoming a lot too... Al; of the other family member support it, well little sisters mad b/c she wants a gerbil lol but as far as college I am currently thinking about how I am gonna keep little guy through all of that... its one of the cons to getting him/her... but hopefully it will work out... I really wanna keep him/her for as long as he will live and not be forced to send him elsewhere... I orrta know how stressful it is to be moved around ... lol but I think I will check out the rehoming section thanks smile.gif

Hey I was in your boat too, I'm only 18 and I decided I wanted a parrot too but had college to think about. Well I solved that problem, I do online college work at ABC (animal behavior college) so I can learn to be a dog trainer at home and keep Pickles smile.gif I absolutely refused to give up my birdie because of college so I took college home LOL

I'm glad you understand that pets are forever, that's really great at your age, most people get a pet (including my mom mad.gif!) just to get rid of it for a stupid reason. (My mom seriously almost got rid of MY cat because she has a brown spot on her nose!!!!!)

Anyways this is a great forum with lots of great people and you will love having a Quaker biggrin.gif
I love my Green Monster! wub.gif
