Wow! I'm jealous too! Majj...you get sugar gliders??? Wow...I didn't even realize they were from Australia! My son used to have 2 as pets....which quickly became 4 before we knew it...lol. They are cute, but it made me sad to see them inside in a cage...even tho he had them out alot and they were for the most part tame, I always thought they were too "wild" to have to stay inside in a cage. LOL...evidently they thought that as well, since we could not keep them in any cage that we bought. I'd look up, and see one of those lil critters racing across the floor at me. The final straw was when I uncoverd Simon one morning to find one of the gliders was hanging on the outside of his cage bars and Simon was TERRIFIED. I had to take them to what is actually a birdie recue place that I volunteer at, but they also take other small animals.....so the 4 gliders now have a HUGE place there to play, not just cage, but a whole caged in area with trees and an small indoor area that they go to sleep in during the day. They happily cohabitate with a litter of baby squirels there at the moment. We can visit them as well. Think they are probably so much happier there...and I know my fids are glad they are gone...hehehe. I just wish they could be set free because I don't think they were ever meant to be in cages, but they wouldn't survive in the wild here.

Lisa , I haven`t seen the sugar gliders for a while but as we have lots of bush (reserve area) around us they are there for sure ...
Here is apiccy taken some time ago of one visiting our bird feeder , I have a family of brishtail possums that come every night now for the birds scraps Mumma possum has had a baby in her pouch for some time and last week the baby was out clinging onto mummas back sooooo cute...
We are not allowed to have native animals for pets , you need to hold a wild life carers license to have them in captivity...I think sugar gliders would be sooooooooooooo cute to have as a pet...

Great picture, Lorikeet right? And the tree is cool too.
It may be old hat to some other members from down under, but it's a novelty to most of us. Thanks.

Awwww Majj! I'd love to have those in the backyard! They are cute, but really hard to keep as pets. One big problem is that their claws have, I suppose, urine on them (just guessing that's what it is) and they are super sharp, so when you let them run around on you, it leaves red marks that itch for days. Also my son could never find a cage that they couldn't get out of. An aquarium is about the only thing we could keep them confined in, but even the biggest one we could find was still small for those active lil things. What's really hilarious is that Sugar, the female had 2 babies and we didn't even know till my son found one in his shoe. LOL!!! Have you heard the sounds that they make? The barking is cute, but it gets pretty old hearing it every night at like 3:00 am!
Thanks for the pic!

Beautiful piccys - both of you. Wow! To see the lories and toos flying free in the wild ... *sigh* that would be beautiful.

@ the toos eating your house! But I perfectly understand! My daughter has a too that has done a number on her entertainment center and window sills before she could move the cage away. Molly only needs a second to make another gouge in the wood

Ah but we love em, don't we??

We all should get together and make a trip over to Aussie land to see these gorgeous birdies and animals..
You all keep taking pictures for us...and do either of you know what the name of that beautiful pink/red tree is and anything more about it...I'm interested to know although I know I couldn't have one, but I know I would love too...

I've always wanted to visit Australia and this just makes me want to more! I definitely wouldn't mind spending my honey-moon there... hmm... maybe that should be a plan. I've always wanted to see the unique animals that aren't really anywhere else. So jealous of those of you who live there. Lets see, in the south of the good ole USA what do we have to brag about? Oh! I know! We can FRY anything. That must be some sort of gift right? At the fair this year they had FRIED BUTTER. No, I did no partake, I'd fear a heart attack at first bite.
I'd much rather have those beautiful creatures to look at. And I've been looking at sugar gliders as pets but right now it's hard enough to convince the cats that the bird isn't for snacking, I don't know if I can keep bringing tasty looking small pets into our home!
