Right now my room is smelling like bird poo even though I just cleaned Pickles' cage? Is it ok to spray some febreeze in the same room? Obviously not at Pickles lol. I can remove her from the room while I do it (and have before) but am wondering if it's ok while she is still in her cage?

Aerosol sprays should not be used around birds. I know Febreze is not an aerosol. If I were you I would get some cinnamon sticks and put them in there. If it were me I wouldn't use Febreze. I did a google check and there are a lot of different things they say. I would just be safe and NOT sorry. Just my opinion

I remember a long time ago, there was a big too do about febreeze and birds. I think it was animals in general though if I remember right. Animals were getting sick. Not sure if they changed the formula or not.
It was years ago, probably a year or so after it came on the market.

hmm...ok last time I used febreze in my room I googled "febreze safe birds" and saw that it was "safe" but just to be REALLY safe lol I took her into a different room for a half hour and she didn't seem to be affected by it in any way. But now that I was considering just a quick spray with her in the room I thought I would ask, but it looks like I shouldn't. Are there any alternatives to febreze that get rid of odor that I don't have to worry about with Pickles?
Haha I thought it was Febreeze before I did some more reading on it

Frebreze have killed more birds or as many as Teflon. This was before they took the zinc out of it. It was the zinc they say that was the problem however birds are still dying from it because the oder gets into the little tiny air sacs and turns them to rock locking them up so they don't work. The more they are exposed to the more those air sacs die. High doses can kill imediately.

Thanks Cheryl, no more febreze in my room ever

I'm really glad I made sure to take her out of the room last time I did it, otherwise I may have had a tragedy! (I also only sprayed it 2 times and really short sprays too plus my room is ventilated).
And I just saw you're other picture, I can definitely see a difference! You are doing great!

Use natural stuff such as cinnamon sticks and orange peel. It is really quite a nice smell. Just my opinion

Sandi is absolutly right. Also lemons hung in closets and oranges with cloves stuck in them work nice too.

Okay, after reading this I gave my Febreze to a neighbor along with most of my cleaning products (the aerosols). So now, what do you use to clean with? I kept my windex since it is in a trigger bottle but is that okay? I have seen commercials for SC Jonshon products that are supposed to be "green" and better on the environment, are these safe? I am just trying to figure out what I can replace my Pledge and stuff with that won't hurt Hunnybird or Kirby. Thanks

Dana I have learned since being a member on here for over 5 years that I use vinegar and water for cleaning most everything...for windows I mix vinegar and a little dawn detergent in a spray bottle and it works great...
I also learned from a member on here that Holy Cow, which is the name of a cleanser and we found it at an Ace Hardware Store, will clean everything....That is about everything I use....
Now---if I decide to use clorox or anything that shouldn't be used around birds, I use it only if Harley is not around, like after I put him to bed at night in his room....
Hope this helps---------

I think we learned about it in history at school.
Or maybe Ive seen it in a black & white movie.
Oh I cant remember it was soooooooooo long ago.
LOL
Seriously, please be careful with all sprays, cooking sprays, deodorants, body sprays & perfumes.
Better safe than sorry.

I will do the vinegar mix that you have suggested. I am steadily cleaning out products not safe to use. I did not even think about cooking spray (PAM) so that will be going also. We have an Ace Hardware about 30 miles from me so I will go check them out for the Holy Cow stuff. The more I can learn about making a safe environment for Hunnybird and Kirby the better. I am starting from fresh as it has been years since my niece and her QP lived with us. I thank you for all the information and apologize for all the questions. I have tried to read the books but what is available at the Pet Stores in the closest town is very lacking in information. Also, when I clean I am sure to open up every window in the apartment so it can air out.

I wouldn't use Windex unless the bird is removed from the room . I heard it will kill birds too. So much to know. My motto is Better to be safe than Sorry!
