last nite i was looking thru the CL pet ads and saw an ad for a blue quaker. apparently the person is going to get a grey and feels the need to rehome their blue. grr. you'd think i would stop torturing myself by looking at the ads. ANYWAY... i offered to take the unwanted baby (bird is 4 years old) if they would waive the fee. i talked with ian about it and his only concern is an extra cage in our already crowded formal living room. me, i don't have such reservations.

after the kid and i got back from gawking at the mcdonalds that's burning down as we speak (am i weird to feel sadness by that?), i checked my email. the current parront was curious about how our grey and quaker got along. i sent a decent size email. i'm somewhat happy about the interest in how they get along, because that shows that maybe the blue will get to stay in his current home. but somewhat bummed because, well, another quaker!!! lol.

so keep fingers crossed that something works out well for this little guy (or girl). either staying in the current home or coming to live with me.

So they found a "cooler" bird so they are just going to rehome their bird? It makes me mad...I hope he gets the right home too hopefully with you though smile.gif

well he emailed me back and said that the quaker was a gift from his girlfriend, but he has wanted a grey all along. i'm borderline taking that as he's not gonna waive his fee.

i don't wanna be pushy, but i'd love to go pick up a new birdy this weekend. he said he has a cat and a quaker, and adding a grey would be too much so the quaker needs to go - same situation as mine actually as far as the zoo. yeah, it makes me mad too, but i have to remember that not everyone thinks the same way i do - in this situation and many others throughout my day lol.

anyway, i'm still waiting to hear from him again. a positive would be awesome, because the bird fair is this weekend again smile.gif

I'm crossing my fingers he gives YOU the Quaker, because if his first thought is to get rid of the poor birdy because he's getting a grey, then when he gets the grey he might neglect the Quaker! You wouldn't do that, so the birdy should live with YOU. biggrin.gif

i hope he decides to let you have him

how much is he asking for him/her?

maybe you could even offer to pay a smaller part or maybe if you have extra toys etc that maybe your birds dont like you could offer a trade?

this is why i HATE pets as presents grrr i could see buying him a bird but she should have let him go get the one he wanted especially since birds are a lifetime commitment

anyway good luck

I saw that ad too, Kris, and it sickened me! They are totally trading him in for a newer, bigger model. Hopefully they see the light.

What a beautiful bird in the pics ... I was sooooooooooo tempted but Tucker would die of jealousy and there are other factors, too.

Am rooting for you!!

thanks for the support. smile.gif

i don't think he's gonna let me have him for free, and i'm not really in a position to buy a new bird - lots of stuff sprung up recently that was totally unexpected, and with the holidays and such, well, i just don't think i could swing that in addition to other necessities. ian agreed to go along with it if i could get him for free. besides, i'd rescue every one of them if i could, and he totally knows that lol. it's those quakers, they're in my brain, and i want to house them ALL so they never feel unloved or unappreciated.

but i'll not give up hope. the worst i'll get is a no, right? on the plus side he doesn't look mistreated or neglected, which is good. i just feel sad for the little booger. he'd be so appreciated here. man, i'm getting teary eyed. stupid craigslist anyway.

i'll definitely let you all know what happens.

I think I looked at the same Quaker you're looking at!! Is he in the Milwaukee, WI area? I was so tempted, but I kept thinking that I just got my first Quaker, who needs some work, and I don't know that I'm ready to take on a second one who may or may not be truly "tame". I have the time and space, but to be honest, I'm a little jealous of all the people here who have Quakers that are so friendly, sweet and playful. I love my little guy, and I'll never give up on him, but I sure do miss having a FID who actually likes attention, toys, and healthy food!! Right now, my Quaker wants no part of those things.

Good luck to you, he looks like a beauty!

yeah yeah he's in milwaukee. still waiting to hear a yay or nay from him.

just keep loving and nuturing your quaker and i'm sure you'll have a great relationship in no time. until he pulls a dr jekyll and mr hyde on you laugh.gif
