So the conures were on a seed only diet, and I was worried about the switch since we buy such a low supply of seed I thouhgt they would clean me out in a week. So last night I gave them pellets mixed in with seed, and they blew it off, so I used my noodle and realized I have one that's just winged and a 8 month old so I grabed some pellets and when with hand feeding. I have the keet sized zupreen fruit blend. At first as a joke I took one pellet and pinched it between my fingers and put it up to mango. He happily took it, then I did the same for the green cheek. It was hillarious it took me about 10 minutes ot get bored and I put some in my hands and they went to grazing! Now they happily feed on thier own. So test the waters when converting your birds you may find that they will think at first they getting a treat, and then think they have a bowl of treats lol!

i converted louie pretty quickly too. i got a kaytee natural colored pellet in the cockatiel size - looked alot like the seed he was eating. he took right to it. after he was eating that pretty well, i introduced the fruity zupreem size. he's been a pellet monster ever since. with goofy, i had to get a bigger size of pellet to switch him from his pellet/seed mix. i only recently realized he had pellet in his seed mix, but for the sake of convenience i got them on the same pellet.

Am0z, why couldn't you have posted this about two months ago? wink.gif It took Rico a full six weeks to really 'take' to the pellets. I never thought about using it as a treat, and he probably would have gone for it since he eats almost everything else I hand feed him.

Brilliant, I say. Just Brilliant.

yeah guess my timing is a little off lol! but that's the reason why we have a forum like this, because no matter what we try there's always something else to try.

That's a really good idea! Pickles converted really fast, her old owners had her on seeds for a year and I don't know what her owners before them were feeding her, but I left pellets in their the whole time, and only offered seeds for 10 minutes, and when the 10 mins were up, she gave me a dirty look like "I wasn't finished with those!" but then she just waddled over to the pellets and decided to try them and found out she liked them so I never had to give her seeds again smile.gif
