Well yesterday Limestone my quaker was out all day playing and having fun and right before bedtime, we put him back in the cage so he can calm down a little before we cover him for the night. I was on the couch watching tv and heard a weird quealing noise coming from the cage and lo and behold... he was "making love" to his cuddle hut. He has tried doing it to me before but when he he starts I pick him up and put him back in his cage... What should I do to stop this behavior? Should I take out his cuddle hut for a while? Or will he just start "humping" another object in his cage...? Thanks for the help

It is totally natural for them to do this. My general rule is as long as I am not the target of this type of affection, his/her toys and cage things are fair game.

So, no need to discourage it, unless it is directed toward you, which is what you are doing already.

Clyde wants to get romantic with me sometimes and I just laugh at him and tell him "it'll never work out between us." Usually a few moments of it and he stops. I've never seen him getting busy with his toys, though. When he had his old cage (that belongs to Bonnie now), he sometimes got busy with it when he was hanging out on top, but he doesn't do that with his new one. Don't make a big deal of it. We think of them as babies, but, well, they're not.

SweetPea has a place where one of the rope perches crosses over a wooden branch one. During "that time" he humps it A LOT. Then he stops until next "time"

Humping the toy I dont think too much about. I do pay more attention to if they are feeding one.. My eclectus will sometimes pick a toy to feed to the point of losing a bit of weight. Then I take the feeder toy out.

Ah yes...that time of year. Even Spirit has a favorite toy picked out. My baby is growing up *sigh* I heard him making a bunch of funny noises while I was doing dishes a couple days ago and came in to check on him and he was "enjoying" himself. I left the toy in there for now, if he starts getting real aggressive over it, I will take it out until this has passed.

I agree.
Toys are fair game, I'm not.
Back into the cage if Donut wants to get frisky with me.

My first Quaker, Merlin, used to do what I called the "he he" dance because that's the sound he made when he was doing the wild thing with a toy.

Its natural I would just leaving him alone. I wish Joey would try this on his toys but it appears I am his mate lol. I just distract him sometimes it works sometimes not.
