LOL!!! Too funny! Love the pictures. But I do know what you mean, Paulie the senegal thinks playing means destroying. I am constantly remaking toys for the little stinker! Oh well, at least they are entertaining themselves. LOL

Donut has only now just started to chew up paper !!!!

There was one more I didn't get a picture of. It's a snuggle ring. It took him 2 days to destroy that. He took all the material off of the plastic ring and then chewed the ring til it came apart, so it is gone forever!
It took him about the same time to eat a bigger hole in the jolly ball, about 6 days to destroy the boing (he's had that about a year but just started on it a couple of weeks ago.
He had the ladder about 2 years and started on it last week. It took a day. He'd make a good termite.
He ate 2 holes for windows in the sides of the happy hut one day (it had been in there about a week) and left it that way for about a month and then decided it was time, so bye bye happy hut. he just crawls up inside it and hides his head to sleep now.
What a monster!

Weeza---did Bo just all of a sudden decided to start his chewing like this....and has he been a chewing monster in the past???

I'm wondering what in the world got him going in high gear....wheeew

Julie, I have had him for 8 years and he never destroyed anything until about 6 months ago when he chewed windows in the sides of his former happy hut He left it like that for about 2 months, then shredded the rest of it (now dead and gone). . Then he started on the fabric of his snuggle ring, then tore up the ring and started on the boing. Then I guess the holes in the jolley ball didn't suit him.
I got his new happy hut about a month ago and that's it you see in the pictures. Then went the ladder. Maybe he wanted to go into toothpick manufacturing.
I have no idea whether he just decided he loves to shred or whether this could be stress or just temper tantrums. I suspect the latter.

YOUR fault Buddy for just drinkin' and readin'. Were you and Willie pickin' and grinnin' too? I see it still works, so I just have to pay for a fixin', not a new one, right? Bo is also famous for yanking keys off of my kb too, and he's fast. I can put two back on while he's yanking 3 more off! Whew!
Julie, I won't let him near my closet or the TV. He gets to the computer but I move him when he starts ripping and yanking! Sun Conure gone postal!

Oh, that's too funny!

He's just discovered a new and absorbing hobby, that's all. First, let's destroy everything in sight, then Mommy has to go to the store and buy more stuff, and then we can destroy THAT, too! Reminds me of my Lab Gigi. She can decimate a new toy in no time, and last time I went to Petsmart and told the nice clerk that I needed a "Gigi-proof" toy, she presented me with one she SWORE was "Lab-proof" and ... you guessed it ... Gigi had it chewed into bug dust within the hour after I gave it to her. It might've been Lab-proof, but it wasn't Gigi-proof. She's very talented. Perhaps Gigi and Bo could form a Mad Destroyers Club and hold conventions.

I know what the problem is.
He is lacking in certain minerals in his diet. He needs more wood, polyester, cotton and plastic.
Maybe you could make some birdie bread with some of these items in it. Ha ha
He certainly is destructive.

Oh my goodness. If Bo were as big as a lab, I'd REALLY be in trouble.
Yep, some birdy bread might be a good thing. Maybe bake some shredder toys in the middle.

I have NEVER seen a little bird do SO much damage!!
Should we set up an on line account for you to replace the bird's furniture that "was?"
smurph1
Nov 8 2008, 11:39 AM
That's great! Hope you have lots of money for replacements!
Try tying paper and tissue all over his cage and on his perches. He will love tearing them up and they are cheap and easily replaceable. Every morning before I leave I cover Darwin's cage with tissue paper and shredded paper. I tie them in knots, thread them through the bars, hide them inside his hut so he has to rip them out, and I cover his food bowls so he has to tear them off to eat. When I come home the bottom of his cage looks like a down comforter!

Your suggestions sound OK, but this is one expensive bird!!!
Smurph, your suggestions are appreciated as well, but he won't touch paper or shredder toys. Been there/tried that.
Silly bird.

Weeza, you have to put price tags on it. - i.e. paper towel $51.98, plain tissue $72.50, newspaper $125.00, etc. That way, he'll think he's chewing up something worth his efforts.

Lmao. Bo looks so innocent sitting there! Like he is just thinking, "What mom? I just rearranged a little to my liking!!"

Could he just be trying to wear his beak down? I just put a new perch in Georgie's cage today and it is already half chewed! That girl loves wood!!
