I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to a beautiful songbird type that you could just listen too all day. Finches and Canaries are nice but I was wondering does anyone recommend anything?
I guess I'm trying to bring the outdoors into my home. Something so comforting as listening to the birds. My Quaker Dexter loves to listen to them too! I put his cage by the window and crack it and he just listens and falls asleep.
Thanks!

I'm glad you asked this. With my work schedule, I don't want to add another parrot (i.e., one who needs lots of attention), until I'm retired, but I've always loved to listen to birds singing. Before I retire, I can add a cage with a few finches, or a canary. Retirement could be as early as next year, but for now Amigo and I would both enjoy them. I think breakfast with the birds is the best way to start my day!

I completely agree. I can hear them outside my window when I wake. You can't help but smile!

Off hand I can only think of Finches & Canaries.
Have you done a GOOGLE search for "songbirds" ????
It might be worth a try.

One of the best singers of the finch family is the Society Finch. Both male and female sing so you don't have to be picky. They have really strong voices and are a joy to listen to.

Most people say that it's rare for a female to sing, but I had 18 of them at one time and all of them sang. I really doubt all the babies I ever raised were males.

Some finches are much better singers than others and with canaries only the male sings...
I have several types of finches and I absolutely love the song of the Lady Gouldian finches... Its soft and very melodic, not like a canary. But very pleasing. However, you'll find that its mostly the males of any finch or canary species that sing.
Society finches have more of a chirp song and zebra finches have more of a meep sound; which in itself can be fun to listen to once you start understanding what the certain formulation of meeps mean. I enjoyed listening to my zebra's first thing in the morning. but to a lot of people its not a pleasant sound. Spice finch have a somewhat melodic song. But if you're going to go with finches, do research before purchasing them as some just aren't melodic at all.

I was looking on youtube and I think I like the LGF its very soothing. Also I've heard you can keep different kinds of finches together if they have a large enough cage. Is this true? Problem is I don't want any breeding going on. So would all males or females be a problem or is there a way to keep them from breeding? I just don't want things to get out of hand in that area. lol.

When I worked in a PetSmart I loved taking care of the aviary. I did learn that not all canaries sing, so make sure that you check that out first with the particular bird. I loved the finches, too - I used to tease the other employees and say that "the finches are speaking to me.. they say.. CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG!"
The diamond doves also used to make a sound that sounded like deranged manaiacal laughter - cracked me up every day.
