Oh thank you all so much for your support!! I was worried I'd be scolded, but I am doing all I can!
He won't let me touch him, he sits on me and he eats with me and stuff, but no scritching, which I would LOVE to do,,I DREAM about touching his soft feather head and back, but,,,oh well.
Thanks again for your support.

Oy poor baby... he does look like a superman, with that green cape and the determined look in his eyes wink.gif
Tell him to keep the feathers growing! You two are both so brave, and I'm sure that by springtime he'll be as fluffy as a pillow.

Best wishes,
Hadas

Lori,
Those feathers comming in are beautiful! That's how they started when Channer started growing his. I thought for sure since he's been growing them on his left side for over three weeks now that his right side and crop were doomed, but just two days ago, finally after being on avi-calm for 5 weeks he's got a pin feather on his crop and is sprouting about 4 or 5 on his right side!!!! Here's how I see it. as long as they stop plucking, it's a battle won! If they grow some feathers in, that's a plus, and every time a new one sprouts, it's time for a celebration. Those lil pins are like gold. hee hee. It just amazes me that they pluck themselves so clean for so long and we're just possitive they won't ever grow back, but yet, here they come! It's like ya hear stories about it happening but you don't think you'll be so fortunate.
Go feathers!

How adorable. He looks exactly like my little "Gizmo". Chest and legs naked. heheheh

My gizmo was a rescue and was a plucker when I got him. We had a work up done at the vets and he was found to have a yeast infection. that is all cleared up now but as far as I can tell, hes no longer plucking his back or the tops of his wings but wont allow any puffs of feathers to stay on his chest for longer then a day or 2. I get my hopes up each time I see a little fluff and then the next day ---- sigh---- its gone.

Have you done anything special to assist the feathers growing back? I have heard of Avi-Calm but have not tried it as I do not really understand how it works or even if it does work.

But your little one is so cute. I just wanna kiss him...

Just wondering:
Has anybody here ever tried red palm oil for plucking? I read about good results with it on Amazon.
And when I see the wild quakers in Florida, they are always eating palm kernels.
I don't have a quaker, and budgies rarely pluck.
But I feel sorry for your little guys...it must be painful to watch.

I have my gizmo on palm oil and I have noticed no difference really.

Chey, Lori is using Avi-calm on him. I'm also using it on Channer my quaker whos been bald in his whole front area since the summer of last year. All you do is sprinkle it on top of their food twice a day or add it to their water which should be changed twice a day. Or you can do both at the same time. I think it's great stuff. Maybe not a cureall for every bird but there have been a lot of successes lately with it on various birds. I'm amazed it worked for Channer. You can see his pics on my flikr site below

HI
I am trying real hard to convince T-Bird that being a nudist is NOT the way to go.
I bought the avicalm and the featherriffic, they are great products, and I would swear he wouldnt' be making these advancements in his feathering without BOTH of the products. The featherrific is for growing feathers and healthy skin and helps with the avicalm to get the feathers back quickly. The avicalm is to reduce the stress and the picking.
I got mine at
www.arcatapet.com
for both with shipping it was $25.49
I put the avicalm in the water, the featherrific on the food. I see a difference in the skin tone, and he acts exactly the same EXCEPT for no picking, which reduced gradually over a week.
I go the extra bit, I also dip his almond slivers in the treated water and then coat them with the featherrific.
I do that morning and night.
I put the avicalm on his figgy newton, so he gets EXTRA, but I have cut back now, he doesn't seem to need it so badly as the habit is ending.
He has been on the products since 10/20, I first found him on Aug. 18, so he had 2 months of continuing the picking when I found him, (already naked) and not even a month on the products and no picking.
Good luck, I hope it works for you! He hasn't pulled any of the new feathers yet!
