hi i'm kimberly and joined the group yesterday and haven't figured out the structure yet.
but will, i look forward to what this group has to offer.
i stay at home and tend to our family out in the country, central ny.
my passion is adopting unwanted birds and have long term goals to set up a small sanctuary here.
i have time, patience, space and the desire to get involved.
my current goal is teaching the quakers more fun things to do than squak.
i'm interested in parrot behaviour and testimonies
the more i leran the better they benefit and that what brought me here
thanks

Hi Kimberly, welcome to the forum.
You are lucky to have the space to have lots of birds.
I wish I had more room for birds.
Good luck with your sanctuary.
How many birds do you have at the moment ????
What sort of birds do you have.
Post some pics please.

Welcome to the forum Kim. This is a cool place to hang out once you have the knack for it. It took me a while to learn the ropes but its well worth being on here as I have learned lots about my QP

Welcome! A bump is when someone posts to your thread so that it goes to the top of the list due to recent posting activity. It helpe people see a post that may have gotten overlooked.
You sound very dedicated! Do you have pics of your set-up? Do you house your rescued together or segregate them? I'm very interested in this. I don't have the room or time for such a thing, but I think it's wonderful when others can do it.

thanks again -
i'm enjoying the board.
it started with a pair of baby tiels my mom in law gave me,
i just loved having them in my house. amazing.
then research brought me to unwanted birds and i became passionate.
it was around the time i was weaning my son. hmph.?
i ended up with another pair of teils, 3 quakers and a conure.
my reading suggested that quakers were huge victims of being tossed around
for such qualities that we find endearing.
i adopted mine separately but all suffered several homes in their young life, serious neglect, poor diet and i think gus was abused.
my conure came from a breeder who keeps his mateless birds in one cage. i clearly saved her life as another female was laying eggs and protecing them. she didn't even have a name.
my sweet mara's feathers grew back and all she does is smile and cuddle
the quakers are tough, but with time, love and patience i've gotten through to them.
gus fell in love with gretta
and crash plays with mara
i like pairs but do not breed.
i realize i cannot ransom rescue them all and so am trying to shift gears toward foster homing, and later on...sanctuary.
meanwhile am very willing to take in any unwanted bird
theres an extra room to build as an aviary and will dedicate it to retirement
(just waiting for my son to be old enough to move upstairs)
i also have another room for quarintine
i write rescue after rescue offering to foster home and am getting nowhere.
the few that have replied suggested that i could never be as qualified as they are to help, ya know what i mean? i am not discouraged.
i live in the country, do not drive or get out much and find sanity in loving my birds
i have a calming knack and am rewarded to see relief in their eyes and then love
thanks for your time and interest

Welcome Kimberly. I too wish I could have more room to take in more birds. I suppose though that I could go overboard like I did with the ferrets......I only have 11 of those stinkers.
