If anyone know how to cook red lentils without them becoming totally much, or just hulls, could you please tell me? I finally found something that TeiKei will eat, and I am trying to cook the red variety and they are not turning out so good. Anybodies help would sure be appreciated! Thanks

Just dont cook them so long that they turn to mush. Its ok if they still have a crunch to them. Butter beans cook up like that too. All mush an peels if you get them too done.

You can also put them in a steamer and just steam them for a few minutes, so they are not directly in the water.

You can also put them in the crock pot and cook them on medium. I tried them that way a couple of times thinking slower cooking would make them softer - Not so. I didn't realize why they wouldn't get soft the first time and then while I was trying to "wait them out" the second time, somebody told me that they wouldn't get soft that way.
I had cooked them for about seven hours and they still weren't getitng any softer.

Lentils generally boil for 8 to 15 minutes till done. If you soak them for 2 or 3 hours, boil them for 4 to 8 minutes. The secret is...
try them, when they taste done turn them off. Bite into one raw. You'll see how hard they are. When they are softer, but before mush, turn off the heat:)
