Hi there, Welcome to the forum!!!

You sure have a little cutie there. smile.gif

I checked in on birdtricks.com early on but I didn't care much for their methods. They seem to go more on making the bird go hungry and then bribing them with food. It just seems too impersonal to me.

I look forward to seeing you around.

Hi, welcome to the forum!! Your quaker is a real cutie...what is his/her name? I've never looked at the site you mentioned so I can't respond to that. I did get a dvd from my vet on our last visit called "Parrot Behavior and Training" and it is really good, but is more about basics than tricks. Our Simon has turned into a bit of a beast these last few months, so I'm just trying to get him to stop biting my husband right now. So far the methods on this dvd seem to be working. I have heard on this forum that "Clicker Training" as a great method for teaching a parrot almost anything.

I signed up for that guy's e-mail list because it was presented as free and I thought I'd get interesting tips and hints in my e-mail and to be fair, I have gotten a few, but for the most part, it's just "buy my new video for an outrageous price" e-mails. The couple of free tips I have received have seemed too harsh to me, or ineffective if not harsh. He's sort of the bird version of Cesar Milan.

I don't subscribe to the idea that you have to be the Grand Poobah and make all your critters subservient to you, so that sort of method where you establish dominance doesn't work for me. My babies mostly mind me without having to go through all that. It takes a little longer my way, but in the end the result is the same. And no, they don't ALWAYS mind, but when it's important they do. I even got Clyde to let go of a ring I was wearing the other day and he'll never let go once he's found a shiny to chew on. But the tone I used to say "let it go" was my "I MEAN it" voice rather than my "I wish you wouldn't do that" voice and he let go immediately.

However, I stay on the Bird Tricks e-mail list because every now and then I do get something useful out of one of his e-mails. Seldom, but often enough to make it worth it.

Hi and welcome to the forum smile.gif

Like Siobhan I subscribed to birdtrick.com's email list, and get the odd little tidbit out of it. Not much really.. and I won't pay for the course or dvd's they offer either.

Google "parrot trick training", and you'll find some really great methods, as well as tricks you can teach your bird.

I taught Yogi to shake hands, lift his wings, and do the flip.. all just by watching the videos on youtube.

One of the members here has a video on youtube too. That's the video I watched to teach Yogi how to do "wing" smile.gif
