My Mr. Tweeters
Tweeters is 2 years old, and he used to say alot of stuff like, whatcha doin, hey baby, i'm a good boy, good boy, peek a boo, and tons of others, but now he doesn't talk anymore at all. I cant get him to say anything he used to, he doesn't even say anything else. Is it normal for a quaker to talk alot then just stop talking? He does make his normal quaker noises, but he doesn't say anything anymore, why?

Can you give us any more information? Has his diet changed, has his environment changed, has he stopped doing other things he used to do? How long has this been going on? Was there anything else that stands out to you that occurred around the same time your bird stopped talking? Have you taken him to a vet? My vet has always maintained that if a bird stops doing things like vocalizing and they were great vocalizers before, there could be a medical issue. What else can you tell us to help brainstorm? There are lots of things that could cause this. I'd see a vet first thing if my bird stopped talking. It's how I know she's happy.

Yes if this is a current thing I would worry about his health as birds stop vocalising when ill...
Watch for other signs lethagic , sleeping a lot more poop changes etc etc ..and if you are the least bit suspicious get to the vet as birds will hide illness for as long as they can by the time we notice they are usually very ill and can`t hide it..
Best of luck and keep us informed...

Are you sure he is not talking when you are not around to hear him? try setting up a video camera in his room and leave the house for 30 minutes and see what he does, maybe he says it all when you are out. laugh.gif Hope he starts up again soon for you. smile.gif

Yeah, I agree with the others about illness. That was the first sign to me that Simon was ill...he quit talking, then started sleeping a lot more. After 2 days like that, I got him to the vet thank goodness because he is there now and they think he has heavy metal poisoning. My adult kids thought I was just being an over protective fid mommy when I kept obsessing that something was not right, and couldn't believe that I was taking him to the vet just cuz he didn't say anything for 2 days, but now they are eating their words!

I know he's not sick. He is eating the same, playing the same, and nothing has changed. I dont know if its because I have been working a little more and not home as much, but it has been going on a few months now that he hasn't spoken any "people" words. He makes his normal quaker sounds, purrs, crackles, and so on, but he doesn't repeat anyting anymore. He is still playfull and bouncy as usual, but he just doesn't talk. He's healthy and happy, but I dont ever hear him talk.

Oh, I did forget to mention, he does immitate new sounds though once in a while, like water dripping, shaking pennies in a bottle, stuff like that.

Well them maybe he is just Choosing not to talk ... smile.gif its always wise to keep a eye on our fids and get to know what is normal for them and the slightest varient should be viewed with suspision as they are so clever in hiding illness till they are very sick..
All the best I hope he has just decided talking is not for him.. smile.gif

Back in the OLD days, if a baby or child started acting differently they would say that faeries switched it out and stole the real baby and replaced it with the one who acted differently. Have you been the victim of a Quakernapping? ohmy.gif
