I just recieved my avi-calm and feather-ific. I'm supposed to spray Missy twice a day but she totally freaks out and flies. I've tried holding her and showing her the misting bottle first but that doesn't work. How do you get them used to it without making them hate you? She loves baths but has never been misted before. Thanks!

Do you HAVE to mist her? Is it medicinal? Clyde freaked the first (and last!) time I tried misting him so I never tried again. He takes tub baths in his little Tuppeware dish. I haven't attempted misting Bonnie yet, but she'd probably freak, too -- she's very nervous.

Are you spraying it into the air above her and letting it fall or are you trying to spray it ON her?

First I sprayed it and let it fall on her, then I tried spraying where she plucked her feathers. She freaks out so bad that I don't want to do it again. I put some feather-ific in her bath water. Hopefully that'll help.

So this is to stop her from plucking, right? Will she let you pet the bare parts? Maybe you could put the medicine on your fingers and stroke her in the places she plucks and get it on her that way, without Missy actually figuring out what you're up to. wink.gif I do that with my basset, who has annual spells where he chews himself raw at the base of his tail but objects to medicine being put on it. So I put the stuff on my hand and pet him and as far as he knows, he's just getting petted. At least, I THINK I'm fooling him ... tongue.gif It might work with Missy, too!
