My sister has a food dehydrator, and used it for apples, bananas, strawberries, oranges and other fruit. And is thinking of doing some veggies for Tink? Although I haven't heard of dehydrated veggies!
She brought Tink some apples and bananas. Are the safe to give him, and does the nutritional value change when they are dehydrated?
My daughter is selling fruit from school, and we thought by using the food dehydrator would extend the life of the fruit, since it is sold in a case or half case quanity.
Thanks,
Sherri

Yep, it's safe for Tink.

I believe the fruit will have a higher sugar content but it will also be high in nutrients since it's so condensed.

I think a few people on the forum us the dehydrators, I would love to get one!

i got one for christmas, and it's still in the box unopened. i should probably get around to using it soon...
we don't have fruit in the house, and the birds don't much like it anyway, but i could do some veggies i guess.

The thing with dehydrated fruit is not to give them a lot. It's really easy to overdose them on sugar. But when we got ours I did some research, and everything I found said that the nutritional content was exactly the same, and that it's perfectly safe for your bird when you do it yourself. Mine seems to like it more than regular fruit. I also keep a little on hand for his emergency kit.

I think I read somewhere that fruit and veggies only lose 3% of their nutritional value when dehydrated. I'd say it makes it well worth while to use dehydrated things.
I'm going to buy a dehydrator soon. Maybe I'll ask for one for Christmas.
