Full Version: Here Is Our New Wonder
Quaker Parrots Forum > Welcome! > Introductions

Well over the last couple of months, I have made a few posts, but never formally introduced ourselves to you all. Well we picked up our little blue wonder about 7 weeks ago. My husband had a "fid" when he was younger, but to me this is a new venture. Our 2 1/2 year old daughter named her "Ariel". She has bonded the most/best with my husband, doesn't say anything recognizable yet except for "kissing" sounds to him of course and maybe the occasional "bark" after the dogs do. I ask her for a kiss and she runs away! ohmy.gif

She has been great, a bit "mouthy" at times when she wants attention or the vacuum is going. She steps up for all 3 of us. Needless to say our daugther doesn't do this often and we help her. She doesn't bite, which is a relief. Now I have read on this forum that may change and I am prepared, but the week we were getting her I went into the complete "freak-out" mode and was afraid she would squak constantly and bite us everyday. It has been a pleasant journey so far.

She is a bit of a picky eater when it comes to fresh foods, but we have been successful in weening her from seeds (except for the occasional treat). She does eat dehydrated fruits and veggies, so we give her the veggies daily and the fruits on occasion, but still offer fresh veggies/fruits to keep trying.

Thank you so much to all of you, I know I don't post too often, but I try to get on the site everyday and read up on the new posts to learn as much as I can from others and to be perfectly honest, have learned nearly everything I know about QP's from this site and you all.

Atttached are a couple of pics for you all, enjoy!

Have fun. Quakers are a joy to live with wub.gif
Except sometimes in the morning when you are trying to sleep and they are jabbering loudly.

Congratulations on your new flock member!!! She is a real beauty! I have read that females are a bit sweeter than males, and that blues are a little sweeter than greens, so hopefully your "blue chicken" will continue to love all 3 of you!

Thank you all for your kind words. A quick note to carielee1, about once a week, she will actually take a bath herself. I fill a clear tupperware with about 1 1/2 - 2 inches of water and she jumps right in and goes to town. Water flies everywhere! Our little silky terriers think it is raining and run the other way. We have tried to offer her bath tubs every other day, but she just ignores it apparently she knows what she wants, so those days we mist her and she likes that as well. We do have a full spectrum light at one end of her play gym so she can warm up if she wants once she looks like a drowned rat! Especially since it is getting cold here in the mitten!
