They Did Their Share

On Veteran’s Day we honor
Soldiers who protect our nation.
For their service as our warriors,
They deserve our admiration.

Some of them were drafted;
Some were volunteers;
For some it was just yesterday;
For some it’s been many years;

In the jungle or the desert,
On land or on the sea,
They did whatever was assigned
To produce a victory.

Some came back; some didn’t.
They defended us everywhere.
Some saw combat; some rode a desk;
All of them did their share.

No matter what the duty,
For low pay and little glory,
These soldiers gave up normal lives,
For duties mundane and gory.

Let every veteran be honored;
Don’t let politics get in the way.
Without them, freedom would have died;
What they did, we can’t repay.

We owe so much to them,
Who kept us safe from terror,
So when we see a uniform,
Let’s say "thank you" to every wearer.

I thank God every day for the freedoms we enjoy. And on this day, we thank our Veterans for securing those freedoms. Thank you each and every one of you for your service. We salute you!

Lest we forget...

IN FLANDERS FIELDS

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

"In Flanders Fields" was first published in England's "Punch" magazine in December, 1915. Within months, this poem came to symbolize the sacrifices of all who were fighting in the First World War. Today, the poem continues to be a part of Remembrance Day ceremonies in Canada and other countries.

The poem was written by a Canadian - John McCrae, a doctor and teacher, who served in both the South African War and the First World War.

Nonetheless what your "hero" status is. You've struggled long enough with several injustices. Personally I'm much happier that you didn't die on the battlefield, and instead you're stuck on the forums with us! No man deserves to die for pur freedom, and usually they do anyways. It's a great sacrifice just to even try to step out on the line, and say that no man shall do us harm. Just being in the service is enough to have your name celebrated. Also if you do plan on going off and fighting in a war anytime soon, don't think I will have enough money to feed your feathered army while you're away, so remember to talk atleast half of them!

This hits close to home being that my husband is a former Marine and my son is serving in the Airforce right now.
This is a picture of my 19 year old Airman, who Thank God is state side right now.
BTW that Airman started his life at 2lbs.6oz.
