Oh, Clyde definitely does that. He can't or won't say a lot of words (I suspect it's the latter, the little stinker) but he gets the most mileage out of the ones he does know. His two favorite all-purpose words/phrases are "pretty bird" and "hello." He puts different inflections on them depending on what he's using them for. If he's sitting on his cage and I'm doing chores and not playing with him, he'll begin with a friendly sounding "hello!" I'll say it back and tell him I'm busy at the moment, I'll come get him in a minute, and it eventually changes to an impatient "HELLO!", gradually increasing in volume and annoyance until he's growling "HELL-OOOOOOO!!!!"
"Pretty bird" is a greeting, a question, an apology, a compliment (for me, not for him). When I'm cleaning his cage, he'll remark "pretty bird!" and start preening my hair from his perch. I'm pretty sure he means I'M a pretty bird.

He'll also lean toward Bonnie and say "pretty bird!" and make kissing sounds.
When I put him in his cage because I want to eat my supper in peace (impossible if he's nearby; he insists on sharing which I wouldn't mind except that means *I* can't eat because I have to hold HIS food while HE eats

), he'll say "pretty bird???" like "wait a minute, you have FOOD, what are you DOING putting me in my cage???"
On those occasions when he's been especially nibbly and I've had all I can stand for the moment and put him back on his cage while I recover, he'll say "pretty bird?" in this very sweet voice and lean against my cheek. I think that's Clyde's way of saying "sorry, Mom, didn't mean to bite so hard, I'll be good now."
