Hello, I have a problem with my two young budgies. I have had them for about a month now and believe they were together in the pet shop with 7 other 8 week old budgies from the same breeder. They were the last two so i wanted to keep them together, however recently they have been fighting. Philip has been making sneeze-like sounds for a week or so and then within that time Bluey has been bullying him worse and worse. I'm not sure of their sex yet but i am pretty sure Bluey is male. He will just follow Philip around everywhere and then peck him and pin him down, then Philip would make a horrible screeching noise and i would try and separate them.
I have read that a budgie might keep on at an ill one until it dies and have therefore separated them into two cages which are right next to each other. They keep trying to get to each other though... I've not been able to handle them yet and getting Bluey out was quite stressful for them and me! so i wouldn't want to keep them separate unless i had to...
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Even with taming them a little or can they be let out without taming? As i feel mean not letting them out... And i'm unsure whether Philip needs to go to the vet or not!
Thanks!
Lucy

yes separate them or the stronger will kill the other one dont wait it might be 2 males or it just might be the stronger against the weakest

I'm just getting used to a budgie again after being without one for many years, but with any animals, if one's picking on the other one and the other one is getting hurt, the only solution is to separate them. They can still be company for each other if they're within sight and hearing of each other, but keep them in separate cages or Bluey will eventually kill Philip, or do so much damage that Philip will die. It might not hurt to take Philip to the vet to be sure he isn't injured -- you know birds are geniuses at hiding illness and injury until it's almost too late. Bluey probably sees Philip as a rival for food and that's why he's beating him up.

Two males budgies usually don't fight. Two females can be problematic.
It could be that the one is sick and that's why he is being bullied. I would take him to the vet.
I use clickertraining to train my older rescued budgies, and that is working well.
My female Snoopy chases her partner Tweety until she gets tired. But there is no blood, and he loves her.
A true pair is really the best situation. But I had two girls, and that worked out too, there are always exceptions.
