Our quaker, Ava, has a great cage cover that pretty much goes from playtop to floor. However, I got a bigger cage for our future Amazon rolleyes.gif and I was wondering if I need to cover the whole huge thing, or if it's most important to just drape the top in darkness (aka, the 'sleepy perch'). If I get the same cover that I got for Ava's cage (actually a futon cover) then the Amazon cage will only be about 3/4 covered. I partially climbed in the cage tongue.gif and its pretty dark when covered with Ava's cover.
I guess I'm asking if your fids' whole cage is draped when covered...Thanks.

Hey rebekah 8)

Ive had a blue amazon awhile back. Hes cage wasnt super covered i just covered the front and left the back open if its got a wall in the back and he seemed fine with that.
The cover i used was a black sheet and that was pretty dark when almost covering it so i figured he would be fine with just that.
Ive never had a quaker and my current bird is a mustached parakeet i do the same to her.

Thanks Vicky!
I know some people don't cover the cages at all, they just make sure the bird has a dark, quiet room for bedtime...The 'bedtime' room for our Amazon will be dark and quiet at night..so I guess as long as the cover shrouds the bird in at least partial darkness it should be ok...curious to hear what other have to say...
Casey's Mom
We cover Casey's whole cage with a regular sheet, she won't go to sleep unless it's all covered. rolleyes.gif I honestly think it depends on the bird and what they are used to/their preferences/how they were raised... some have to be fully covered, some hate being covered, some wouldn't care if they were half covered etc. I guess it might be a trial and error sort of thing? If the new 'zon is bothered by the partial cover then you could always get another sheet... or not use a sheet, lol. biggrin.gif

I like the fully covered method as it protects them from drafts etc. when it's colder. smile.gif
Majj
I use a Doona /Duvet cover (single sized bed cover) and it just covers the top and sleeping area...then if they wake before I do they can climb down to play and eat their pellets..My boys have their own room to so its pretty quite and dark when they get tucked in anyway...this is an old piccy they now have a jolly ball to sleep in in this one they had a nesting box...
