My Buddy is a real cuddle bug. He doesn't like toys, not interested in learning many new things......all he says is "Thank You!" and he has to be in the mood for that. But as soon as I pick him up, He runs up to my shoulder and snuggles into my neck. He often rubs his head on my cheek, and I rub back and tell him what a very nice bird he is. If he is in the mood to be generous, he will give me a kiss on the cheek when I ask for it. If he is cuddling and I move my head away from him, he immediately moves over to get closer. For some reason he likes my left shoulder much better than my right. He is about 16 1/2 years old, and I am his third and last home. I was told to not expect much interaction from him.....but the first night I had him, he ran up to cuddle by my neck and took a 2 hour nap.
I find that my birds will do as much for praise as for treats....and then I don't have to carry around a pocket full of food. The only real 'treat' I give them are slivered almonds, but that is just a special 'I love you ' thing, not for doing anything in particular. Every one and their fids are different, but that is what works for me.
All of my birds are re-homed or rescues, and while they sometimes take a bit more work, it is SO worth it.
