Hi. My husband was adopted by a Quaker Parrot on 3 October 2007. He was at work in a body shop when he saw some of the guys and what looked like a colorful bird out in the lot. He went over to them. One of the guys who has birds was trying to get this bird to step up on his finger. The bird would not do it. My husband steps up to the bird and [she] went right to him.

She stayed on his shoulder the rest of the day. He went out to his car to go home. She did not fly. He calls me and tells me what happened. "Can we keep it?", he asked. "Sure", I said, "as long as we can still get a kitty some day." He agreed. Well, we still don't have a kitty, but our bird says she wants one!

Because of the location where they "met", we call [her] "Crash".

She was a little aggressive at first, but once we got her on a good diet, her demeanor changed. She is now the sweetest bird! Thank goodness I am an information gatherer! I went online and found out how to care for our little darling. In addition, we are blessed to have Kookaburra Bird Shop less than 4 miles away! The people there are very well educated about birds, that's all they do!

I never though I could get attached to a bird, but I was quite mistaken. Guess who agreed to pay the bill to get her health certificate so she could be boarded at an awesome avian-only facility when we went out of town? Who paid for her boarding? Yup, that would be me!

Welcome to the forum Nadine! Kookaburra huh? You must live in Carrollton?? I'm in Dallas over by White Rock Lake. In case you hadn't already heard about this, there is a flock of wild quakers that live by the power plant at the lake. Another super cool bird shop that I actually like better than Kookaburra is called TreeTop, in Richardson. If you've not been there, you should check it out.

One last thing that I hate to even mention since you have said you are already so attached to her is this...did you try finding her previous owners? Just wondering since I've read about so many people loosing their birdies. From what you said I'm assuming that she was someone's pet before finding your hubby.

Greetings NaturallyNadine (cute screen name). Boy are you going to have some fun with Crash!

I haven't visited Kookaburra in several years, but I was just looking at their website and saw they are celebrating 29 years with a 29% off sale on everything in stock through Nov. 22nd. I'm hoping to visit them later today.

Also wanted to say hello to my fellow D/FW neighbor, Slic102. Are those ferals still at White Rock? I thought TXU decided to remove them after helping to conserve their habitat? Awesome news if they are still there.
