i haven't been in a situation where i've had to ask for good thoughts for one of my fids, and i feel a little weird, but i had to take my kitty buddy to the emergency vet last nite. he was acting funny and had a weird posture and gait yesterday, and i noticed a couple days ago part of the sunday paper felt funny. come to find out he had a complete urethral blockage. his heart was racing and she told me he had a heart murmur. she put pressure on his belly to see if she could get anything out, and she got nothing. the vet got me in the exam room within 5 minutes of arrival and took him back immediately after his physical exam to work on getting him unblocked. she said it's a good thing we didn't wait until today to take him to our normal vet because he may not have made it thru the night.
she called about 11 to let us know he came out of anesthesia fine, he had a long, grainy "plug" that they removed, but his potassium and kidney values were fine. he will be in the hospital until at least saturday with a catheter sewn in. it's just not right here without him. he normally sleeps between my legs at night, gives me a head bump wake up call in the morning, and tries to send me flying down the stairs when i do get up lol.
on a side note, i attempted to apply for care credit (which i learned about here, thank you!), but my crappy phone thwarted me. it asked for our net household income, and one of the numbers i pressed didn't register, so instead of xxxx/month, it entered as xxx/month. needless to say i was denied.
so, any good thoughts you guys can send his way for a complete recovery and no relapse would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I have 4 cats myself and I know the comfort you feel especially at night when they lie on your legs.....
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

Hi Kris!
Sorry to hear about your kitty but GLAD you got him care so quickly and he'll be okay. How ginormous is your cat? I have a 23-pounder and I worry about his health. He's still young (4). How old is your kitty?

You can actually apply at your veterinarians office. I work for a vet, and that is what we do when a client would like to apply. It is great. Especially if you have a big bill.
I hope your kitty has a speedy recovery. It is not an uncommon ailment in male neutered cats. You may have to give him special food.
Hugs to you and your kitty

well i got an update earlier today on our home phone that said my little dubba doo was doing very well and they hoped to pull his catheter tonite. i called ian and ian had an even more recent update: apparently his urine still has a lot of junk in it, so the cath won't be pulled until tomorrow morning at the earliest. he still has to be able to pee on his own and the urine residue issue has to be resolved. as it stands now, IF they can pull his cath tomorrow morning, he can maybe come home between lunch and dinner.
keep your fingers crossed for him please. unless he's gorked out on meds, i'm sure he's not a happy camper stuck there with so many strangers, and not knowing where his people are. the kid is sad because she doesn't get her afterschool greeting, and ian is probably sick of rattling the bag o'tissue paper for me lol. and it's not the same without my baby sleeping on my butt.

oh kris... i hope your kitty gets to come home tomorrow! i think it's amazing how in tune we can be with our animals. we just KNOW something is wrong. when Bailey was only a few years old he was scratching on all the doors meowing. it just wasn't him. so i took him to the vet and it turned out he had a urinary infection.
keep us posted!!
