I am a wreck -- Boncuk finally has his flight feathers in after getting all the wrong ones cut last april by a confused vet. He's been flying with great control and enjoying himself, being cute and wonderful. My birds tend to hang on me like I am a playstand, and today as I was reaching for a water bowl to clean it he got pinched between me and the cage, and squawked really loud. He flew away from me and I couldn't catch him -- he flew into windows, into a glass door, then out of the room and into another part of the house where I was finally able to get him. He was breathing really hard and seemed stunned. I held him for a while and he was just frozen in place. I returned him to his cage and he crawled on his perch and is just sitting there like a rock -- he has no apparent injuries, but I have never seen him so scared in his little life! I hope he doesn't have a heart attack or go into shock from the scare -- he seems so terrified. Is there anything I should do for him? What do I look for in terms of internal injuries?
I was feeling guilty about getting his wings re-trimmed -- how could I take his flight away now that he knows about it? -- but know I know it has to be done.
Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm not an expert at all, but I've read on here that when they are in shock the best thing for them is to keep them really warm....a warming light would be good....just put it where he can get in or out of it if he gets too warm. That's scarey I'm sure. Hoping that Boncuck will be fine once he gets over the scare.

Sorry to hear about this but i agree to Put a warm light near him but far enough he can move away from it if he gets too warm.. watch him carefully to ensure he's still eating, drinking etc etc. As long as everything appears fine then it was most likely a shock.. I agree though..
Time for a wing clipping. And if your birds do tend to think of you as a playstand you never know when you could beocme so accumtomed to having them ride around on your shoudler and maybe answer a doorbell or something..
I know i've forgotten Kiwi's perched on me when he's so quiet.. good luck!

i wanted cricket to be flighted too. i'm really a big believer in that. unfortunately, cricket was not the best flier. i could tell it just scared him by the way he'd fly to me but be screaming the whole time and shaking by the time he got to me.
i decided then that i would get him clipped. when i got to the bird store where i bought him from, i went to reach in and grab him but the lady told me she'd get him so as soon as i backed away from the cage, cricket took off flying in the store.
it's a small store, not like a Petco or anything, but they had to lock the doors so no one could get in or out. cricket was flying so high that no one could catch him and he was so scared he wouldn't fly down. he was finally caught in a net and he was breathing so hard that i really did think he would have a heart attack or stroke.
he ended up being fine. by the time we got back to my car he had forgotten all about it but i haven't! i made the decision then to keep his wings trimmed even though i'm not a fan of it!
