So I bought Pickles her happy hut it's blue and I put a bunch of treats in it so Pickles would actually have to go in there to get at them and I know she's not afraid of it now (yesterday during the day she was hanging out in there) but she still sleeps on the bottom of her cage sad.gif Or she has this really deep "treat dish" with the thinnest rim that she sleeps on and I can't believe she picks the two most uncomfortable looking spots in her cage to sleep. How can I get her to sleep in the happy hut?

She might change her mind once she has some time to think it over. It took a few weeks for my Quakers to like theirs and sometimes when I uncover them in the morning I find that they're on perches instead of their sleeping tents. Funny that way I guess because my conure would move out if I didn't have a happy hut for her. She's a fiend about sleeping in hers. The Quakers... not so much.

Chili didn't like his at first either. I think it took him at least 2 months, and one evening before bed, I went to say goodnight to him, and there he was in his hut. What a surprise. Just be patient. He may surprise you any day.

It took Clyde three MONTHS to sleep in his Happy Hut. The first one I got him was too small and he was afraid of it, so I took it out and waited awhile and finally got him one the right size and he wasn't afraid of it but he didn't like it there, either. He'd attack it and bang it around and stuff like that. Never went in. Never CONSIDERED going in. Then one night we went out and didn't cover him and I came home and there he was. Now he usually won't even wait to say "good night" when I put him in his cage and tell him it's "birdy bed time" he climbs right in his tent (that's what we call it) and that's the end of him until morning. Last night he didn't even wait for me to tell him it was bed time. He got bored while I was working on some bills and flew over to his cage and crawled in and went to bed. Leave it there and be patient and eventually Pickles will decide it's kind of neat after all. It might take a while, though. tongue.gif

Looks like I gotta be patient then...sigh You should see her on that dish her tail is straight up in the air because there is no room for it there LOL

lol Jessica you should try to get a picture of Pickles sleeping on her dish with her tail up in the air i would love to see that i need to get Emma a happy hut but after reading stories on here of people loosing their quakers because of them, i'm scared to try it. Loosing one bird really makes you think before you try something with your other fids.

K I'll try and get some pics of Pickles tomorrow I don't know where our camera is...I haven't posted any new pics of her in a while...it's so cute because she has the whole other side of her cage and chooses to wedge herself where she barely fits instead! tongue.gif

But what did you hear about the happy huts? Should I not have bought it? mellow.gif

and I'm so sad you haven't found India yet! sad.gif

I just have to say I love the name Twiglet and her Sig.it's so cute.I also bought a Happy Hut but Pico was having no part of it. After 3 months I took it out of his cage. I will try again in a few months. Maybe he will change his mind and like it then. Not all Quakers like them.

Last night, Clyde slept on the perch at one end of his Happy Hut (there's a perch at each end so it's easier for him to get in and out) with his butt and tail crammed against the side of his cage and just his head and shoulders inside his hut. Usually he goes all the way in, so I don't know WHAT that was all about, the silly bird. laugh.gif He was still like that this morning so he must've stayed there like that all night. And mind you, the perch at the other end would've left room for his butt and tail without them being crammed against the cage, so if he wanted to sleep funny, why not sit on the OTHER perch? My bird's a weirdo. rolleyes.gif Bonnie won't sleep in her hut -- she cuddles up to her favorite toy. She won't use her cozy corner, either. As long as she's happy ...

Thank you. I have been trying for weeks to figure out how to make my own sig. When I happened to come across Blingee. It is a free sight, and I uploaded a picture, and made the one that I am using. I was so proud of myself, I could hardly stand it. I showed my hubby. He thinks I am nuts:) I even emailed it to my kids. I think they think I am nuts, too. Oh well.......

http://blingee.com/ It works well with photobucket.

Hehehe...Simon only wants to sleep on his rack, which I made the mistake of putting too close to the back of his cage, so now his tail feathers split in different places from him backing up there. I've been trying to move it, but I had this toy that had a bell on it that long since fell off, but it screwed onto the cage and I put it sorta over where the rack attaches cuz the rack had fallen off a few times, and now for the life of me I can't get the thing off. I even had my hubby try a pair of pliers yesterday and we still can't get the thing loose!!

I've found random posts on here about the happy huts and how people have found their quakers dead in them the next day. i don't know if it was the material or if the bird was sick but i'm weary of trying anything new with Emma that I know won't cause her harm. I'm sad that I haven't found India yet too I'm still hoping and praying that she has survived this weather we've been having and that she has found a caring family to take care of her.

Verde won't have anything to do with his Happy hut and it has been in his cage for over 3 mos. I might give it to my daughter soon for her soon to arrive lovebird!

Last year I made a happy hut for Pascal, but he decided it was evil and should die, so I removed it. A few months ago, he started to want "birdie caves" whenever one of us was sitting with a blanket on our lap, so I decided to put the happy hut back into his cage.

He sleeps in it most nights now, although he sometimes still prefers to sleep on his perch. I can tell where he's slept based on where the poop pile is in the morning. He doesn't want to admit that he likes his tent; he climbs into it as we're carrying his sleep cage upstairs for bed. laugh.gif

I think positioning may have played a part in his newfound like of the happy hut: I attached it so one opening is against the cage bars and the other is just a step away from his perch. This way, it moves less. Pascal really does not like things that swing.
