Well, when I saw an ad on my coop's bulletin board of some baby quakers, I thought they were cute, but I really didn't have time for a bird. The last 3 birds in my life were not successes and so why would I want another failure.
I googled Quaker parrot and started reading. I consulted with my friend and she encouraged me to get the bird. I went through the process of visiting the breeder even though I still didn't intend to buy a pet. I did come up with a name for my possible future bird before the visit, just in case. Cevapcici, pronounced Chay-vahp-chi-chee, meaning little Serbian sausage.
So when I visited, I was immediately attracted to these noisy green little creatures. And one, the future Cevapcici, pulled away from the crowd, ran over to me, and stepped up onto my finger. Then he fell off and ran back to the rest of the crowd and hid under their wings. Five minutes later he came back to step up on my finger again and stayed there watching me. That was it. The breeder dipped her finger in blue paint and christened him on his head so she would remember which one I chose. He was mine. I picked him up 2 weeks later. It took him a day to adjust and we were off. I never expected to be so charmed, so enamoured, so engaged with a pet. He has me and today I just spent another $50 worth of toys.
I've had him about 3 months now. I'll attach a few photos the breeder took before I picked him up. I think I'll enter him in next year's calendar. Isn't he beautiful? In the photo with his brother and sisters, he's the second one from the left.
