Good Morning everyone ..

Well .. after the whole Conure fiasco .. I was feeling kinda down. To make a long story short, a friend of mine referred me to a local Quaker breeder who had a blue quaker baby still available. I decided to go take a look .. yea .. sure .. look!!

Anyway .. please welcome my new blue baby .. Forrest .. as in Forrest Gump. Forrest is missing all his toes on one foot, and one toe on the other foot. The breeder said he was born that way, she's not sure why, as it's never happened before. He got picked over I guess because people didn't want a toe-less bird, but it didn't bother me in the least .. and it certainly doesn't seem to bother him at all.

His/her hatch date was August 3rd, 2008 .. and he's as sweet as can be. This is more like what I was expecting from a hand fed baby bird!!

I know everyone says 45 days quarantine .. but Ivy, my greenie, was vet checked just a month ago, with a clean bill of health, and Forrest had been to the vet just two days before I got him, also a clean bill of health.

This breeder gave me a cute little care package. A book about Quakers, food, treats, his hatch certificate and band registry information.

Awwww...what a pretty little baby!!! I want a blue so badly! Congrats!!!!!

Congratulations! Blues are so beautiful. Was wondering if you have them staying in the same cage? Also is his cage set up with platforms for Forrest to sit on when he sleeps? I know with Squirt even though he can climb all over his cage he uses the platforms for relaxing and sleeping.

He's beautiful and so what if he's missing some toes? Bet his personality is completely intact! He looks like a doll.

They each have their own cages and their own playtops, but they keep trying to fly to each other to play .. so I just let them play on one playtop together. I seriously doubt I'd ever house two birds in the same cage again after the Sun Conure episode .. even though they only shared a cage for a week, and had lived together in the same cage before I got them.

I thought about the name Forrest .. and how it reminds me of green .. the breeder was calling my little blue Stubby .. because of his missing toes, and that is quite fitting too. I haven't decided for sure on a name. It's kinda hard .. until you get to know them.

Yes .. Forrest/Stubby has two platforms in his cage .. one is a wire platform that I covered with a bit of fleece material, the other is a granite platform I got from Bird on the Rocks.

Beautiful fids, good to hear the foot issues don't seem to be bothering the little one much.

Forrest sure is a cutie, glad he has found a loving home with you and Ivy.

I like the name Forrest because Forrest Gump started out life with a disabiliy also but he ran so fast his braces flew off and he went on to run touchdowns for The U of Al! So I think Forrest is a great name for a birdie with no toes, he'll show everybody who passed him up what a great birdie he is!!!

Congrats on getting your little blue guy, they look so cute there together. I don't know what happened with the conure but I have 2 conures and quakers and conures are very very different for sure. I don't know if mine will ever be friends. I do believe that my quaker Paulie is the smartest though, or maybe its because she is a girl and they are boys? LOL

What an ADORABLE blue baby!! I'm um... blue?... with envy! I love Quakers in general but a blue would round out my flock perfectly. hee hee hee. I'm going to write Santa right now!
