Someone stole one of my checks from my checkbook! They used the check 12 times for telechecks then they wrote the check to buy BEER! I have 1541.00 of bogus checks because this is an account from before I moved. How can I prove I didnt do this? I can do a handwriting sample for the one check but what about the others? I'm so mad and no one seems to believe me. Apparently they the police and the bank officials hear. I didn't do it alot.
Give me some ideas. PLEASE!

Hi hi Kathy,
You need to go to the bank and talk to someone higher up the totem pole. They will have you file an affidavit stating you didnt write the checks. It will go to their fraud dept which will determine thru handwriting and other things that you did not do it. Banks keep a record of your spending habits and since this is so out of character for you it should be no problem. While they are investigating your account they will return your funds into your account. Dont spend them. You might have to appeal it. However you didnt write them so eventually they will end up having to clear and give you the money back.
pm me if you need to.

That may help. They can tell you where the checks were written, dates, times, ect which could be helpful in proving it wasn't you. If it was done online it should be much easier to prove it wasn't you. Most places keep records of IP addresses for purchaes made. I know a toy store I worked at one time helped a lady prove she didn't write bad checks by turning over security tapes. You could try going to where the check was written and ask.

I am so sorry this happened to you Kathy. Here is a site also that might help: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idth...ers/defend.html

I would just get on the phone and get everybody involved as much as possible.

I would just stick up for my rights. Tell them you didn't write them, and that the check was stolen. I had some checks stolen from my check book. Of course they were the last two on the pack, so I didn't miss them. It was a friend (not anymore). She wrote them out twice for ski equipment to the tune of around 1800.00. I didn't find them until my statement came. When I went through the cancelled checks the two were not my signature. I just called the bank and explained what happened. Someone at the sports store got her license number, and she got caught.

I would not be happy with the bank or police in your instance. What about innocent until proven guilty. It seems these days your are guilty until you prove yourself innocent. Kinda backwards.

Good Luck, and stick up for yourself smile.gif
