Full Version: African Grey Singing Her Own Song
Quaker Parrots Forum > For Pet Lovers > General Pet Bird Discussion
Mama Bird
It's 11:30 pm and I am sitting here listening to my TAG make up her own songs. She is singing hello in every voice she knows, fitting in the names of the dogs, and singing to Pepper, the Quaker she never knew. She is also singing about Jennifer, a big black cat she never knew. Both of these pets died before we got Emily, but she has called them by name and talked to them since she first learned to talk. She calls Jennifer the same way I always called for her, and she plays peek a boo with the Quaker. We never taught Emily to play that game, but it was Peppers favorite. Birds are so much smarter than most people give them credit for being, and I know that Emily sees the spirits of our animals who have passed. I know it sounds strange, but that is the only logical explaination for her knowing their names., and what they were. When I am on the phone, she is right behind me having her own phone conversation. She ends many of those conversations with "Ok, you take care now, Bye" After I came home from having back surgery, she would tell me to be careful when I bent over to pick something up or open a drawer. She is almost seven now, and I pray she lives a long and healthy life. I am 67, and in good health, but when my time comes, arrangements have been made for Emily. She is really on a roll tonight. Talking up a storm. Who needs television when they have a bird like Emily. Seymoure, the quaker we have now, and Sam the 18 year old cockateil, are fast asleep, but Emily stays up as late as I do. I just let her sleep in the next morning. This seems to be her favorite time of day. Well, she is asking the dogs if they want out and of course they do, so we will call it a night.

Wow Mama Bird---you have one fasinating bird to say the least....we do need some video of that little poot talking....and yes, our birdies are so darn smart....I enjoy hearing Harley having conversations with himself but the minute he sees me---bam---he shuts the door laugh.gif --however there is a lot of things he will say in front of me...but when he is having his own little pow wow, it is quite funny and sometimes he will just laugh about what he said. smile.gif

Emily sound like she is a wonderful companion.
She really does belong with you.
The fact she knows about the other critters you had is AMAZING.
I have always believed that animals have that special sense.
