A hearty welcome! My family is of Irish extraction some generations back so I always feel especially glad to see Irish folk pop up.

George's new palace looks like a great cage.

Thanks Siobhan! Yeah I thought it was time to invest in a bigger cage for him as I noticed his tailfeathers were getting a bit frayed so he probably needed a bit more space. He's out of the cage whenever we are home anyway. I drove to Northern Ireland to buy it as everything up there (United Kingdom) is generally half the price that it would be in the Republic, especially given the current exchange rate of Pound against Euro. I got that cage (£120) that would suit an Amazon or African Grey for the same price as a decent budgie or cockateil cage would cost in the Republic.

If my reckoning is correct -- and I wouldn't bet on it!

-- that's a darned good price for a cage like that. Whereabouts in Ireland are you?

In the countryside about 40mins from Dublin city centre. £120 is about $176 (God I love XE.com!).

ta casey's mom!
Yeah my girlfriend tell's me she loves tiffins too.
George is learning pharses on the hour... it's bedtime for him now which is when he speaks the most... just a minute ago he shouted at me "Come on, come on. Step up. Good Boy."... for the first time ever! That was pretty funny.

Your critter family sure is cute.
We are looking at going to Ireland for a holiday towards the end of 2009 or early 2010.

Hi folks. Thanks very much for all the kind welcomes.
To Cheeky's Mum... No there aren't too many quakers in Ireland. I've only ever seen a handful of quakers at the avairy that I bought George and a pair in an animal farm.
To donut... Hope you make it to Ireland. I'd imagine it's a great place for people to visit from other countries as it is quite a unique place.... Just don't forget your rain coat!
After much research I decided a quaker would be perfect for us. I bought him to replace our Senegal that died of an avian virus that he had since we bought him, only a month or so before.
I had many birds when I was a child as I kept a decent aviary with everything from smaller finches to larger Australian parakeets. I had to give them up due to schoolwork when I was in my teens. Last year at 22 I decided to get a nice handreared bird as I missed the squawking.

Thank goodness somebody else likes squawking.

So many people post that their bird's too noisy or they worry they'll be too noisy that I thought something was wrong with me because I enjoy the birdy jabber!

Hi folks! Long time no post!

Here's a video of George doing what he loves most... following me around! He is now fully flighted as opposed to clipped. Hope everyones' birds are well! Since I posted last I became another victim of the recession, so then I decided that I should do something that I love, even if the money wasn't going to be great... I got a job in a petshop. George has enjoyed celebrity status there on the days I bring him in. I also have two baby QPs at the shop for sale... The only downside to working there is that I want to take everything home for myself.
Here's a link to the clip...

Hello, Welcome! I am also very new, My Quaker Doli is 6 months old and is an absolute character ( As all birds are!), Shes already chatting away, her favorite phase is " What are you doing?" but she has heaps more words very clever! I also have a lovely cockatiel called Bert, hes 4 years old. Unfortunetly my quaker doesnt like Bert at all, so I have to be very careful when their togetheir!
