Full Version: Looking For A Quaker Or Other Parrot To Add To Our Family
Quaker Parrot Forum > Avian Re-Homing > Member's Birds Needing New Homes

Hello everyone... We are still looking for that special quaker to add to the family. I am willing to drive up to 2 hrs (or more depending) to pickup the new family member. As many of you know, I had adopted a Sun Conure from a woman in the Chicago area.. well, that ended badly when after a month, she took Skittles back. Now, my poor skye is heart broken. I have been looking for months now. I am interested in the Cinns, Blues but would consider a green. I have the cage and accessories all ready. I just need the bird. I can't afford much as I lost several hundred when I drove over 4 hrs to get the conure and was never refunded the money. I am just looking for a sweet bird to add to the family.

I would also consider larger parrots but would need cage and accessories. Thank you

Hi there ..

Check Lycos and Kiiji for the Chicago area .. I've seen quite a few listings for Quakers over the past week, maybe you'll have some luck with one of those ads.
Siobhan
Are you checking Craigslist every day? I've seen Quakers on there in the last few weeks. Farmer City's a long way from Chicago, but I've been watching the Springfield, Decatur, Bloomington and Champaign Craigslists and have seen at least three or four Quakers, plus a few other kinds of birds. A couple of them were scams (the bigger birds) but I think the Quakers and a Grey were for real. That would still be a drive for you, but not as far as Chicago. There's been a blue fronted Amazon in our paper (Decatur) for about a month and we called and she said he wasn't hand tame and "wouldn't" come out of his cage so he'd be a project. He's on Craigslist now, too.

Thanks to you both.. Yes, I have been keeping an eye out on Craigslist. Most of the birds on there have been scams... I hate people like that... UGH... I will continue to keep looking but thought I'd post here just incase someone needs to re-home and is close to me... at least they could see the bird off and on.... Plus, I do not what to go through what I did in Oct last year... that was terrible!!!

Thanks though.. will look!!

I have been keeping my eye out on www.kijiji.com, Craigslist and local pet lists, groups and Yahoo. We are still looking for that perfect quaker (or 2) to welcome into our family. I would love a cinnamon and/or blue but would consider a green as well. If you or anyone you know is looking to re-home with a small (<$100) fee, I would love to talk with you! Thanks.

They are getting along amazingly!! They chat back and forth across the room. They do the ever so loud (lol) flock call. Skye laughs at Sugar all the time when he bobs his head around fast LOL. I am very pleased with him (both of them!) Right now they are both sound asleep wink.gif

UPDATE on Sugar!!

Sugar said his first word on Friday -- BUS. He sits and watches out the window and when the kids' school bus comes, they both yell BUS.. so, Sugar has picked up on that... It's really cute.. although, now he thinks every BIG truck is a bus too LOL...

He also said "Good Boy" this morning... I was so excited... he is learning...

Skye is doing amazing with him. He has learnt "Sugar", "Step Up", "Baby Birdie", "Good Boy Sugar", "Sugar, You Stupid", "Bye Bye", "Hi Crystal", "Momma", "Skye Gooood Boy", "Mama Baby". I think those are the most recent. They are both learning and laughing.

When we came home yesterday from the drs with my daughter, Skye and Sugar were laughing at the dogs whining LOL... Then Skye says, "Dumb Dogs" and Sugar bobs his head up and down...

I love my FIDS!!!

What a great story so happy thing are woring out for you. Can we see some pictures of them.

I think that quakers learn words quicker when they are around other quakers kind of like kids do. We try and try to teach them (both kids and birds) but they learn at their own rate but seem to do better in the company of others. Just an observation of mine. smile.gif
