Kim,
Your situation sounds exactly like what Pickle needs. We know we can't provide enough attention for her but it's still difficult to let her go. She's a sweet bird! A bit ugly at the moment, though. It's late already so we will talk to our Daughter tomorrow. If you'll send us a PM with your number we'll give you a call tomorrow evening.
Thanks!
Jerry
Dear Jerry,
I have sent you a PM (I hope) - let me know if it does not go thru.
Thanks!
Kim
Dear JA,
Thanks for the heads up and reminder. I know CA did not allow Quakers but forgot to review this side of the country.
I was lucky, I was given the option to exit out of CA or leave Mickey with them. Of course I turned around, drove across the border of Oregon and called my sister asking her for ideas. Luckly, a trucker overheard my situation and showed me on a map where I could cross in without border patrol (Doris, CA). After that, I smuggled her back and forth across the border. (I was in the AF and got stationed in CA for 3.5 years and went to WA state to spend XMass's with my sister. Nope, I ain't giving up my child. I had her before I PCS'd to CA and would have her after I left CA. I don't believe in breaking the law - except this one.)
Just FYI, Mickey was my beloved Quaker I adopted from my sister in 1999 as a hand fed baby (divorce). Mickey suddenly passed away on 20 Feb (no icon with tears). She was in great health and looked super. The vet was so shocked she preformed an autopsy for free (Ok, this was 2 days after seeing her for a check up - Mickey didn't look good after getting some blood feather pulled). I am awaiting results. The vet did say all her organs were great - not even fatty liver disease - but her kidneys and spleen were very abnormal and the spleen was not in the usual place. Mickey was the runt of the 8 babies, so it may have been a birth defect that did her in. She was 13 years old

You may view her memorial at
