Kiwi is a wonderful green quaker. Says "love you" and "kiwi" and "baby" and a slew of other words. He is very bright. Very healthy.

Kiwi needs a new home. He was a rescue about a year ago, found in a local park. We had a blue (Mumbles) and could help another.

We love Kiwi and want him to find a good home, but he is having problems. He has tightly bonded to me, but can be aggressive to my wife and son. He is not aggressive to Mumbles (though he was a little nippy for the first few months), so he will be fine with other birds.

He is not cranky or mean or anything like that. He is sweet and loving but has terrified my young son. We have talked about it for awhile, tried many things and now believe it is time to consider Kiwi finding a new home. It was not an easy decision.

Kiwi has a cage and a couple toys. He has seen the vet, checked for everything and has a super clean bill of health. He is, of course, free to a loving home. He has no hang-ups about food and is fine (but wary) with cats and dogs. He would sell his soul for a millet spray... but then, we all have some weakness.

We live in Delaware. I can share photos.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Where in Delaware are you located? I know there are parts that are relatively close to NY, though don't know how we would get him through PA. Also, can you post some pics? Thanks

I wish you luck finding Kiwi a new home. He sounds like a sweet bird...I am way too far away.....

would you consider shipping him?

Where are you in Delaware? I'm in New York and would drive to get him. smile.gif My little Jax would love another quaker playmate.

Hockessin, DE - on the border w/PA. But, I can always meet you half-way up the turnpike or such.

I'm not real keen on shipping him. Okay, "terrified" is probably a better word.

Hi WHJ:

I don't know what your level of experience is with birds, but it definitely sounds as though Kiwi has bonded with you. He is showing aggression toward your wife and son because he is trying to protect you, so to speak. This can be overcome with time and patience if you and your family work with him. If you're interested, I'm sure that some of our members can offer various methods that might work for you.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best. Making the choice to separate from a beloved pet is never an easy choice to make.

In the event that you decide to ship Kiwi to another parront, my only recommendation would be to be sure that the weather isn't too hot or too cold. Try to do it when the temperature is about 70-80 degrees. Animals are supposed to be shipped in a portion of the cargo hold that is climate controlled like the passenger cabin, but one never knows. I've received shipped birds before, and this was always a wise precaution that was taken by the breeders.

Good luck! smile.gif

Kiwi has found a new home. We grilled her, did the meet & great with Kiwi, talked about birds and pets... and Kiwi was absolutely comfortable. The bird that charges and nips at strangers had no problems with the situation, and was on her finger within 15 minutes.

It is tough parting with a fid. But this went better than I expected. Much better.

Glad it went well. smile.gif

Now that your bird has found its new home, I'll be closing this thread.
