Yes he has been to a vet. But it is that time of the year. I can slow it down but have never been able to stop the plucking. He even had a collor on him for 6 months and I hate doing that so...
Anyways here he is.

I have had him for 8 years of his 17 he come to me plucked and soars. I have slown it down enought that he does not chew the skin.
Vet says more then likely it wont ever stop. So I just count my blessings that he no longer chews his skin.

I think once it has become a habit, there isn't much we can do other then break that habit. I know some people have had great success with giving daily baths and using specialty products, but after being a plucker for so long, I don't know how well this would work.
He's a cutie though

I agree with Siobhan....he is a little doll no matter how many feathers he has or doesn't have.

Well I like him. He is full of spunk and very much fits the typical description of a quaker. lol He has only talked one time about 4 years ago and never again. All he said was little quaker.

have you tried a special diet? i was looking for some organic diets when i first got my parrotlet! the breeder i purchased him from
had him on a purely kaytee diet or hartz one of the two that was mostly peanuts which i am allergic to and it was to a point that i was about to give up my birdies until i figured out it wasnt them but their diet!! so i will look back at my research and see if i can locate the diet that i am speaking of!! livelovelaugh always Tinene

He gets what the others get.

No pellets the mix and very light on the seeds.
Frozen veggie mix, pasta, brown rice, several kinds of dried beans (cooked), fresh veggies and fruit.

oh wow yeah he looks like he is eating great! but the diet i was speaking of was designed specifically for birds that pluck! it had a few b4 and after shots and i just remembered it when i looked at your little one! I did not read to far into it at the time but they claimed it alleviated the plucking i will keep looking for it! i tried to locate it last night but was tired after my shift!! and P.S. i hope you didn't think that i meant you were not feeding him good enough, I am so sorry if you thought that this is not at all what i was implying! livelovelaugh always Tinene

I have had only one bird that plucked. He plucked his chest bare and picked a few small holes in it.
I had no avian vet within 4 hours of me and they couldn't see him for over a week, so I gave him plain yogurt, he loved it...some don't. If they don't like it, add a mashed strawberry. I also gave him cottage cheese and added just a little apple cider vinegar to his water. I washed his cage down with vinegar water (not AC vinegar...plain) and he stopped within a day and the feathers grew back in right away. That has been quite a while and he has never plucked one feather since. I still give him a little yogurt and cottage cheese twice a week. He LOVES it.
I'm not saying it works for every bird, but it stopped mine immediately!

Oh no I didn't think that at all. I have heard of birds that pluck cause of the dyes in some foods. That is why he and all my birds now no longer get pellets.
I also tried aloe in the diet and palm oil. Neither helped.
