We need to find a new home for our Quaker Parrot, Tiki. He is almost 4 years old and is a great bird. Unfortunately, he is VERY loud if he doesn't get constant attention. This is quite a problem since I've gone back to school and spend most of my time TRYING to study. DBF is working a job where he can't take Tiki with him anymore. We love him dearly, but he isn't getting the attention that he so deserves and though it saddens us, we want the best for him. He's just not happy and as a result, we are not happy either. He prefers to spend most of his time out side of his cage. He typically only goes in for bedtime (he tells you when he's tired). He talks up a storm, is super snuggly and is quite sweet. He's also very smart.
If any of you or someone you know and trust would like more information on Tiki, please PM me. Ideally, we'd like to find him a home among animal lovers. Tiki will live to be 25 years old, so we want those years to be happy for him and his new owner(s). Tiki has never been around children so I'm not sure how he'd do around them. I'm taking final exams now but am working on Tiki's Story for anyone interested. We are willing to pay to send him to the right home. Tiki will come with his own cage and his favorite toys, food and treats.

I wish you the best of luck. Where do you live and are you asking a rehoming fee?

We live in Tampa, Florida. I am not asking for a rehoming fee as I don't want the lack of funds to keep someone wonderful from adopting Tiki. We do need to know what type of home he will be going to. I will be rather selective as we love Tiki dearly and want the very best for him.

I just read your post and wanted to wish you luck in finding Tiki his "perfect" new home! and i wanted to say how great it is that you are willing to look beyond the money to find him a great home! so many people are trying to rehome thier pet birds right now but they want so much for a rehomning fee that i do beleive it keeps alot of potential great adopters from going through. I know i spend so much on bird food, vet care, grooming, toys, cages, ect.... that i cannot afford an outrageous adoption fee but my birds live in the lap of luxury and are very happy. Im sure you will find an excellent home for Tiki......good luck!

After speaking with my brother who recently rehomed one of his birds successfully, I went to Craig's List. I listed Tiki there but while doing so, I noticed an ad from a couple looking for a bird to adopt. They were ready for another bird after their QP died of old age. She volunteers for an animal shelter and they met their QP there quite some time ago. She was loved and treasured very much.
I responded to her ad and she answered me immediately. We have talked several times each day since. They are very excited to meet Tiki and he will be their only bird (it's what he is used to). I feel that they could be the perfect home for him. We just have to see how they all get along. She told me that she would send pictures of him periodically to let us know how he's doing in his new home. They also live just approximately 40 minutes from us. We could not feel better about them and really feel that they can provide them with the type of home he is accustomed to.
This was not an easy decision to make. We love our bird dearly and he's just not happy and hasn't been for a few months. We want to make sure that the home he goes to is a wonderful, forever home.

We took Tiki to meet his new Mommy and Daddy this morning. It all went very well. They are a very nice couple and they will love him forever. She will be sending me pictures of him periodically which will help. It was a difficult thing to do, but we had to do what was best for our baby bird. I know that we did the right thing for him. He went right to them with no hesitation. He fit right into their family. We couldn't be happier.

As this bird has now been rehomed, I'm going to close the thread.
