Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to show everyone pictures of Izzy. He is soo cute and friendly and loveale. My favourite game to play is "I got your beak" where I light grab his beak, kinda like "I got your nose" with kids.

I do have a question thought. He seems to shake his tail A LOT, is this normal, should I be concerned? I think it's funny and cute, and every time he does it I say "shake your tail feathers" - (would love to be able to teach him to shake them when I say that) laugh.gif , but I want to make sure it's not a sign of an infection or something.

Hope you enjoy the pictures

Izzy is adorable.

As for the tail shaking, I don't know why they do it, but I know my sister's Quaker did it a lot when she first got him too, and the vet gave him a clean bill of health.

Of course, what else can you say but, Awwwww!

Heh. When I wake Scooby up in the morning she has a regular regimen. Head down to make sure I'm not a bad guy. Comes to the center of the rope perch. Stretch left side. Stretch right side. Both wings up. Poop. Big fluff. Then she looks at me and says (of course) Step up?

Which of course means, Let me out of here!

What a cutie! I can't keep from smiling BIG smileys when I see a baby picture. These are such special little guys.

I think the same, the tail wagging is just a happy sign.

Clyde shakes his tail when he's especially pleased with himself and also after a serious preening session. I think it's just one of those weird Quaker quirks. laugh.gif

So cute! How old is Izzy??

Izzy is 12.
I will try to get some better pics, quality wise.
I was told that he could say some words but has chose not to yet. He is mumbling in my ear though. Working on the cage aggression a little as well.

Izzy is one good lookin' fella. I'm so glad you adopted him. You are going to have a ball with your new buddy. According to this site (freedomflightsparrotrescue.ca ) I read, it states:

TAIL~Parrots often wag their tails after fluffing their feathers out as a greeting. A parrot that rapidly flips its tail is most likely happy to see you. This behavior also occurs after the parrot is finished with one activity and is about to begin another. Generally, this is only seen in a content parrot. Many also do this just to rearrange their feathers. FLARING~This indicates that the parrot is excited or agitated. In some cases, this indicates that the bird could bite. If the tail flare is combined with an erect posture, erect nape feathers, and pinpointing eyes, handling the bird would be very unwise. PREENING~Parrots spend a lot of time preening to keep their feathers clean and in good shape. A bird that is preening its tail is likely very comfortable in its surroundings. Nervous parrots will not preen their tails or wing feathers because they cannot pay close attention to what's going on around them while they are doing so.

This site has some pretty interesting stuff on it. I found that information about the tail shaking under 'interpreting parrot behavior', and it is full of different postures that a bird can take. Some postures are good, but some mean "Look out bud, I'm getting ready to bite you". Anyway, I don't think you have anything to worry about with the tail wagging. It is probably something he has done for years and people gave him attention for it, so he picked it up to please humans. If you keep giving him the command every time he does it, he will link the verbal command to his action, and should do it when you tell him to. Repetition is the key to Quakers. TeiKei does it when I tell her to 'shake your tushy', or 'tushy shakes'. That happens when we get out of the shower. She knows I like it when she obeys the command and we both get all excited. Good luck with Izzy. Send more pictures when you get time.

He looks relaxed and happy. Just looking at his picture, I thought he was a young bird then I read his age, he looks real good and healthy, so cute. I think they shake their tail feathers when they are happy, mine do it also, especially after just preening. smile.gif
