Hi There

A few questions have come up lately about PM (private messenging) so I thought I would address them to the forum at large as it really is good information ..

How do you know when another member has received or read your PM?

Received -- You have the ability to know whether or not another member has received your PM simply by the message displayed to you when you send it.

When you send a PM to another member you are presented with a message that states "Your Pm "Subject" has been sent". Once you see this message on your monitor that means the sent message has been delivered to the recipient's In Box. This message is NOT seen unless the recipient has received the PM

The following are scenarios with related messages from the board ..
  • If a member's PM is active and not full you will receive the message "Your Pm "Subject" has been sent".. (as stated above)
  • If a member's PM is active and not full and you are tracking it .. you will see it in your Message Tracker -- It WILL NOT appear in the message tracker if it was not delivered
  • If a member's PM Inbox is full you will not see the "has been sent" message. Instead you will be advised that the mailbox is full.
  • If the member's PM is disabled you will not see the "has been sent" message, Instead you will be advised that the member's PM is disabled.
  • If the member is blocking you you will see the following message ... "This member has chosen not to be contactable by the board Messenger. This personal message has not been sent"
Read -- You have the ability to track all your messages to determine if a member has read your message

When sending a message from your PM you have the option at the bottom of the form to:
  • Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder
  • Track this message?
If you check off these options you will keep a copy of the message you sent and you will also be able to track your message. When this message appears in your tracking page (from the link on the left in My Controls -- Message Tracker) you can see when the message was opened and read ...

So if you sent a message to another member and you have seen the "message has been sent" message .. then the member has received your message. The only way that message can be displayed is AFTER the message was received by the member ..

Hope that helps .. biggrin.gif

That's some good info, Dee.

I, personally would like the "sent items" and "tracker" box to be "on" by default but that might be just me.
Dee
That would be my preference as well .. because I keep a copy of every message I send and I also track every message I send ..

My overall preference would be if we had the option to set our own default. That way members who don't use it .. won't be using space in the database ..

But for now it is a per message setting .. unless I can figure out how to modify easily! tongue.gif

Can't you just sneak that php open, put checked in those two fields, save and upload?
I don't think most people would even notice. Of course this thing must have about 500 folders. ohmy.gif

Exactly .. I'm sure I can figure it out or find a mod to do it .. Problem is that when we go to update or apply a security patch we then have to go back and remember all the modifications we did to ensure we update them as well .. tongue.gif

It takes the better part of an entire day with Shelly and I communicating via IM to do an upgrade .. lol
