Hello everyone. I'm relatively new to the forum here at quakerparrots.com but am not new to birds or other various exotics. I've been keeping exotic animals for more or less my entire life and have worked with ratites (emus, rheas, ostriches, cassowary) for the past several years. I would like to put together a small group of quakers to keep as companion birds and may give a shot at breeding (or allowing them, that is) if all goes well. I'd like to start out with just a couple of birds before delving into any of the mutations.
My partner and I are both science teachers and would like our birds to visit our classrooms from time to time. Obviously they would be very well socialized ahead of time. We are both very well versed in avian nutrition and maintenance. We do have two dogs (two miniature schnauzers) that are both very well behaved and don't bother the other animals. They would not have access to the birds' cages at any rate. Our other animals are either outside or kept in secure enclosures in a separate room.
If anyone thinks he/she has a quaker that needs a new home, know that it would be given a permanent loving home here with us. We are willing to drive upwards of 5 or 6 hours one way from our location (W. Cen. Arkansas). We also can pay re-homing or adoption fees as long as they aren't exorbitant.
Please contact me to let me know if you have a little feathery bundle of joy needing a new home. Thank you for your time.
