Has anyone watched the new show Dogtown? It's about a huge animal sanctuary that takes in dogs (as well as a bunch of other animals, but the show is about the dogs). I like it because it shows the happy endings the dogs get - but at the same time, it just makes me so sick to watch because you get to see how horrible people are.

Like last nights episode was about pitbulls who had been used in fighting, they were the ones who belonged to that football player (not sure what his name is.. Vic?). And there was one dog who would just cower as soon as someone walked into his pen, and he wouldn't even walk on a leash because he was SO afraid of people and what would happen to him (he had been used as a bait dog, so every time he was taken out he'd be abused by the person or another dog). And another dog who had been a champion had all of her teeth pulled out so that they could breed her without her hurting the male. I just think its so revolting. I've learned a lot about this in one of my classes at school, and it's just so disturbing what these people do to animals. And the stupid *** is getting out of jail next month.

Sometimes I just can't help but think that there is no hope for humans, because we can't think of anything but ourselves. There are amazing animal rescues out there, but there are still so many people who mistreat animals - and it seems like there is nothing to be done about that. Even when they are caught, all they recieve is a slap on the wrist.

Argh. Sorry, just needed to vent!

Yep I've seen it and like you said, the first part of it is sickening....I mostly watch the last part of it....Also, I watch Cesar Milan and how his magic helps dogs that he sees...He is amazing....
I think that Dogtown comes on every Friday night a couple of times in between Cesar (Dog Whisperer)...

People that abuse animals ought to be strung up by their heels, I was really thinking something else, but I'll say heels here, and just let them hang there, or better still, do them like the Indians so long ago did; bury them up to their necks and then pour syrup all over their head and let the ants have fun....Dang it...disgusting.... mad.gif

I just think they should be shown the same cruelty that they've shown these poor animals. It's so terrible, and so upsetting. Soon there will be no animals left, we destroy the natural habitats for our own ends - and then abuse the animals we've domesticated. So charming!

And I really think people like this football people should really be punished for it - people idolize him and look up to him. He should be trying to do something good for the world, not fighting dogs with all his money. So since he couldn't do anything good for the world, maybe his punishment should serve as an illustration to everyone else. If you have all that money and fame, why not do something GOOD with it?

I saw the one with all the pitbulls and it just broke my heart. I can't believe some could actually do that to these poor dogs. sad.gif

I volunteer in dog/cat rescue and I am amazed at how selfish people are and how disposable they think animals are. They just dump them in the street or if the animal is lucky at a shelter and let them become someone else's problem. We had one that the family didn't want anymore because he kept getting under the fence and running away - instead of fixing the problem with the fence they left the dog at the shelter.

We just had one a coupke come in this weekend that wanted to adopt one of our labmix puppies and thought it would be ok to be in a truck all day with one of the owners - we were willing to consider that until we asked what would happen to the dog when they have kids (they were a fairly young newly wed couple) the answer to that sealed it - "Well that won't be for a few years and we will decide then if the dog can stay or not." What? They started talking about being able to send the dog to her parents house in Florida if they decide they can't keep her. Then they got mad when we told them they would not be adopting any of our dogs today or ever at this point.

Then I had to call over to the other adoption show we had going on at another Petsmart where more of these puppies were and tell them not to adopt to these people incase they showed up and they did and tried changing their story a bit.

Unfortunatly they will probably find some breeder or other rescue to adopt to them without really checking them out but at least our dogs are protected from their stupidity.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread and go off on a rant. blush.gif
