Our family lost 3 kittens to a very unfortunite accident 2 months ago. I know its not a good Idea to replace a lost family member with another but in a moment of weakness with my children we ended up with a dotson mix puppy. She is between 4 and 5 months old and adorable. we have had her for 4 weeks now. I have not brought her for her shots yet as she was so small I worried how they would effect her. Today as I changed her beding I noticed a light brown ring(dried deluded blood) on her white blanky. It was not a lot but was enough to ting her pee spot brown on the edges. I am terrified she has some thing wrong with her! I can not afford a huge vet bill right now. In panic I called our local on call vet and she say well its probly parvo.....what! she seems fine now I am so upset I am besides my self. Her only symptom was the little ting she is acting and eating fine...she did throw up yesterday after eating a paper plate lol(it all came out). I guess I am just looking for some advice or some soothing words. I am going tomorrow to get her shots not that it will make any differance now but maybe for a piece of mind.

I'm not so sure your pup would be eating or drinking with Parvo. I know that it doesn't help all Parvo victims but I know my vet tried Gatorade as a last resort for one that had it and it lived and did OK. You have to be careful with Gatorade as it has a lot of sugar and that isn't good for dogs.
That may not even be what it is. A guess over the phone is often still just an empty guess.
Your pup may just have a little infection. I firmly believe in plain yogurt for infections. It really does help more often than not. You can give it to animals because the lactose in it is broken down so that animals or even people who have a problem with dairy products can have it (even birds)
In my opinion, it is a good thing to replace an animal that is gone. It fills that empty hole left in your heart and makes you smile again.
Best wishes. I will keep your pup, you and your family in my prayers.

Im glad to her encouragment. I have heard maybe an early heat or maybe ut infection. I am hoping for one of those. I am also glad that you like to fill the hole left by a loved one. We have a family of five and only had 4 after losing the kittens so now while watching tv we all have someone to cuddle!!

It could be any number of things and Parvo would not be my first guess. She could be cutting teeth and had some blood in her mouth and then licked herself, it may not be blood at all it could be a small amount of leakage from the anal sack - yes gross but a fact with small dogs - although that usually has a strong smell and it actually isn't too early for her to be starting her heat cycle - it isn't that common bt it does happen. The vert may require a blood test to make sure there is nothing going on before giving any vaccinations - you can't give vaccinations to a sick animal.
You should never wait to gat vaccinations for puppies - Parvo is so contagious and can be deadly very quickly - even if that is the only vaccination you get right away. I hope your little one is ok - since she is eating and drinking normally I would guess it was something minor but you can't be too careful with babies.

Do you mean dachsund? Even tiny dogs like that need their shots; the vet will adjust the dosage to her weight.
I've had a dog with parvo, and she stopped eating and drinking. She continually threw up bile that was clear and stringy and she lost an enormous amount of weight seemingly overnight. My mom brewed up a concoction of vitamins and raw egg and goodness knows what all and we basically force-fed it to Evie and darned if she didn't survive! The vet just shrugged his shoulders and gave her up for dead when he diagnosed her and said there was nothing he could do, so we had no choice but to try treating her ourselves or let her die. (We have a different vet now) My point is, if your dog is still eating and drinking, it's probably not parvo. It might be distemper. The thing to do is get her to the vet, though. Even very young puppies can already have sicknesses they caught from their mother or other dogs if they came from a kennel or breeder.

I agree my first guess would not be parvo either. I work at a vet clinic and in the summer time we probably see about 3 cases a week of parvo on average. The symptoms are lack of appetite, diarrhea and vomitting. Bloody diarrhea is usually seen in the later stages of the disease as the intestinal wall begins to break down and slough off.
If your little puppy is eating and acting normally otherwise I wouldnt worry

I think I was just over reacting lol. I have watched her all night(set alarm for every 2 hours) and all day. she is playing eating and drinking normally and her pee and stools look fine. I am not sure what I saw but I havent seen it today. I am keeping a very close eye on her. yes siobhan she is a dachsund mix. Her birth record is dot mix lol. I am just so darn jumpy about losing another pet, I dont think my kids could handle it.

Hopefully, your little dog will be fine now and you and your children will not have to go through another loss. My prayers continue.
