Do people around here have reptiles? I don't know of many bird lovers with reptiles or vice versa. I'm more of a reptile person. I'm curious to know since it would be interesting to have some discussions on the subject.

I have 2 leopard geckos, 1 tokay, 1 beardie, 1 red footed tortoise and 1 russian, 1 baby veiled chameleon (rescue), 1 ball python

Do you keep UVB light on either your blue tongues or your leos? I'm curious because there are a few things of UVB that despite years of research and knowledge still have me on the fence. They say skinks don't need uvb. But they say all diurnal reptiles need it (except snakes). I also agree. Maybe not that they need it, but that it will be very good. Same thing with leos. I hear lots lately about how beneficial it is. Sure they don't NEED it. Its like we don't NEED to run 5 miles a day, but boy will it help.

Has anyone used uvb for leos? I'm thinking of getting some. What kind would you use? I started using Zillas's "Desert series 50" fluorescent uvb tubes for my beardie and I was pretty surprised how great a shape my beardie stayed. I liked them, so the packaging says they can be used for leos. And after deciding I want to try UVB for my leos, I might use these, but what do you think?

i do use uvb for my skink he is an adult i only replace the bulb(reptisun 10) once a year though for him instead of every 6 months

and no i dont use them for the leos

mine are not out enough during the day to benefit from it
if you have any leos that are albino be especially careful b/c they tend to have eye sensitivities anyway

imho they dont need it b/c they usually are not out enough during the day

if you want to get one get a lower level light like reptisun 5.0 (or 10.0 if you have a taller tank)long tube bulb NOT coil or compact those have been causing problems

if your tank is too tall they wont get any benifit from the uvb anyway it only travels so far usually it is reccomended they can get at least 8 inches close to the bulb for maximum effect b/c the tube bulbs dont put out alot of uvb and i know in my leo tank it would be almost impossible for them to get close enough

alot of the other bulbs have been causing major health problems especially eye problems so i dont reccomend using anything else from what i have heard zilla isnt that great

if you REALLY want to see a change in your beardie get him a mercury vapor bulb www.reptileuv.com they are the best you can buy (does heat and uvb in one bulb and they put out much more uvb than a normal uvb bulb)they last for over a year too

this is what i use for all my beardies and i will never go back to using the tube bulbs
