I am new to forum and just purchased a baby Quaker. He/she is still being handfeed and I will pick up in a week or 2. I have ordered HQ flight cage and a Jolly Ball "House" for bird. Can anyone please help me pick the correct perches, swing, ladder, etc. I can't buy everything at one time but would like the basics in the cage when my bird is introduced to his/her cage for first time?

I like to use natural wood perches and rope perches ....my guys love their Boings..Here is a piccy of their cages to give you an idea..

I think if you look at old posts in the accomadation forum you will see a post where someone has asked to see everyones cage set up so you will see many things to give you ideas...
I have also lined my cage grate with a full newspaper and roll up a sheet at a time , its easier for the boys to walk on...with a baby you should have a old towel so if he falls he is not injured and keep perches low till he is use to his cage ....
I will add a link for safe woods and how to clean them...

Cleaning Wood: One philosophy says clean bird perch wood before it’s used by soaking for an hour or two in tub of water with a cap of household bleach. Then rinse the wood in clean water. Another says Chlorine bleach may cause an occasional sickness or fatality. Maybe due to too strong of a solution. The second philosophy may use mild soap and water solution followed by rinsing with clean water. Both viewpoints agree about allowing wood to dry thoroughly, including exposed to direct sunlight. Oven drying needs to be hot enough to kill microbes, but cool enough to avoid combustion"

I use vinager and water scrub branches rinse and sun dry.....

Be sure you have several different perches, wood, rope, etc. of different sizes. I also have a corner shelf and a flat perch which allows them to rest their feet since they are always on them. A favorite of all my birds is their boing, a long spiraled rope that you attach to the top of the cage and it hangs all the way to the bottom. They LOVE that. Zuzu also loves his plastic slinky. Remember to pad the bottom of the cage with a folded towel at first and keep the perches a bit lower in the cage until the baby grows and gets used to his new cage. They do fall when they're little and could get hurt hitting the grate on the bottom. At first you can keep the toys to a minimum so as not to overwhelm or scare him too much and add things as he gets used to his new surroundings. Any other questions just ask, people here are very knowledgable and glad to help.
