Ok Butters was a breeder dog and had no socialization.
I brought him home a month of or so ago. He still
doesn't have much desire to be held but he is coming around.
He gets all excited when we drive up he yelps and jumps around.
He has now had his follow up vet visit and he has gain 1.5 pounds.
My vet did cut his hair where it was matted up. He had big sores
under his matted places where it didn't get air. Those places
have healed the the scabs are pealing off and he doesn't look
very pretty. He will run up to us when our other dogs do but
still shys away from being petted. He is the coolest little
dog when he is running in the yard his tail is curled all the
way up to his back. I think he is honestly happy. I guess that
is really all that matters.

That's wonderful! Good job! I think we need a picture or two if you can get them laugh.gif

I agree I do need to upload some pictures of him.
I swear he acts and feels better but looks worse.
I'll try to get some uploaded tomorrow.

We had a dog once that had had all matted hair and my mom got him down and gave him a haircut (which he didn't like, but put up with; the poor baby had been abused before we got him and was too afraid to protest). He had sores under his hair, too, and Mom didn't try to give him a fashionable 'do. laugh.gif But they healed and his hair grew back and he was a very handsome fellow after all that. It sounds like Butters is doing well and who knows, he might come around and want affection once he realizes he's safe now.

oh yeah his do is not very fashionable he looks terrible. I hope his hair grows back.
I just took out his morning food and he was hoping around all excited about getting to
eat three times a day. He has such a cute personality. I'm sure he is going to be a
great pet someday.

Those are pictures when he first came here. Notice his eye is matted shut. They stayed like that
for the first three weeks. The vet gave me some drops and his eyes look much better. He pretty much
looks the same except no hair.

He is a cuite pie for sure. I just dont understand the mentality of people who think that pets of all kinds are disposible. I am usually a calm laid back person but this kind of stuff makes me go postal. Thank you for taking in Butters, and I am sure he appreciates it and will give you much love in return

It sounds like he is coming along and adjusting nicely to his new home. Your patience is paying off with him and he sounds like he is much happier now. It also sounds like observing the rest of his new pack is helping him learn how to act & react. Dogs are very observant. Dont worry, his hair will grow back in and in a few months he will have a new look. It always looks worse before it looks better. The important part is he is happier & feeling better.

I know where I'd go if I were a stray animal... I'd go straight to Kathy's house.... biggrin.gif

Just keep loving on him, he'll come around!
