Full Version: My Babies Stopped Sleeping In Their Hutt....?

Okay, here I am. Everything seams to be going well.... We have babies. They are
approx. 3 - 4 months old and up to this point have loved their cage and have
always slept in their sleeping hutt.... At first buddy loved his cage! And then
all of the sudden - one day he decided he would rather not be in it. I let them
out on to the play tree several (2-3) times per day and he started not wanting
to go back into his cage. Like I would have to trick him in order to close the
cage door...... Made me sad... sad.gif Their cage is in a room where they can not
totally see us, their view of us is obstructed, but they can hear us. Their
play tree is right in the middle of the action. SO... I thought maybe their cage
needed to be moved into the middle of the action and we moved it in here where
they were right smack dab in the middle of the family all of the time.

Then. They stopped sleeping in their hutt and started just huddling together on
a perch. I didn't have to trick them to close their cage door as much, but now
they didn't go in their hutt to sleep AT ALL....

So, after a couple of days I moved them back. Now they are anxious to get out
of their cage and still do not sleep in their hutt..... dry.gif

After reading a post by another member, I started thinking that I may need a
bigger cage. The breeder that we bought these birds from keeps telling me that
this cage is big enough. hmmm....?? So, I am posting pictures to get all of your
opinions... I just love reading what you all have to say about these little guys...

Their cage is 16" x 22", and it is obvious that they LOVE their play tree....
Do I have a case of "spoiled bird"? or what?

honestly if you can afford it id put them in two seperate cages ,(unless your gonna breed, thats a whole dif ballpark outta my league) and from what ive read 18x18 is the bare min id put them in. MoJos cage is quite a bit bigger but that was a steal...

i would not worry about hte hut, some birds will some wont not a big deal..

good luck biggrin.gif

Yes I would put in their own cage and two bigger cages

That cage is kind of small for one, and really, too small for two, even if they spend a lot of time out of it. Mine each have a cage that's a good four feet tall and about 2.5 feet wide and 2.5 feet deep. I would say you need separate cages, too. You don't want them to decide to form a birdy club and that they don't need you, though of course if they get along well you want them to play together while they're out of the cage. For one thing, it keeps you from having to entertain them constantly! laugh.gif

Frost did the same thing: abruptly stopped sleeping in her birdy bed. She still plays in it but never sleeps there any more. She also doesn't want to be put into her cage, although she will go in there herself to play. Some nights it's a real battle to get her to go inside the cage to bed. Her cage is 32"x21", so I don't think it's the size. She likes going in and out of it during the day, she just doesn't want to be shut in there.

Great news now just keep that cage for vet visits or for some time outside in the sun .... Can`t wait to see your new cages ..My boys each have a cage 3ft x 2ft and about 4ft tall ...I wouldn`t get much smaller as by the time you add perches of differennt sorts boings happy hut toys etc it get kind full...
