Full Version: Why Is Mox So Loud When I Am On The Phone?

Hey there, so Mox is loud. I had no idea just how loud until I was having a buisness convo and the person on the other end just laughed and said "do you have a parrot". ohmy.gif Oh man, how embarrasing. Mox was in the background making these rediculous monkey/laugh noises. She only does this when I am talking on the phone...whats up with that?

I love her to bits and pieces, but what to do?

Gracias~

My quaker hates the phone. I think it's because I'm paying attention to it and not her. Nothing enrages her more. She squawks and will lunge at the phone if it is within biting range.

Hehe join the club smile.gif same here he makes these loud grrrrr noises and nibbles my lips/ears not sore but a hey i'm here too you know nibble smile.gif and when i walk to the other room with the phone he screams. Sometimes works if i give him kisses/attention but who ever i'm speaking to kinda thinks i'm blowing kisses to them on phone lol

If Clyde's on me while I'm talking on the phone, he insists on joining the conversation. It's gotten so my mom just assumes she should say hello to Clyde and he leans into the mouthpiece and makes kissy sounds. When I've talked long enough (in his opinion), he attacks the phone.

The only advice I have is get a cordless and go into another room out of Mox's sight. If that's not possible -- such as if you have to use the computer in the same room with Mox while you're on business calls -- then maybe you could cover his cage or roll it into another room when you're trying to do business. Because, trust me, you're not going to convince him to be quiet. HE is the most important thing in your world and if you have any doubts, just ask him. laugh.gif

I think it is because they are not getting the attention that you are giving that mean old phone that you have up next to your head. I think they think you are loving on the phone. My fid does the same thing. She also hates it when my grandson loves on me.

yikes, I was already feeling like I didnt have enough love to go around as it was, now I have to worry about the phone.

I have a solution! I will quit my job, throw away my phone and become a bird lovin hermit....oh wait, I am almost there!

LOL A bird lovin hermit!! I love it!!!! smile.gif

Chewy always insists on being part of the conversation from his cage. When I'm on the phone I hear him talking gibberish with an occasional "Yeah!", "OK!", and "Whatcha doin?" thrown in the mix. smile.gif

Remmi also thinks he has to join the conversation and has to be next to the phone and my ear while I'm talking, so I just use speaker phone anymore. He gets attention and can hear the other end of the conversation and maybe laugh at the right moment instead of all the wrong ones lol

Mox is loud when your on the phone BECAUSE YOU'RE ON THE PHONE!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Mine just chitter-chatter usually, but if the phone rings or heaven forbid they see me pick up the phone, it is suddenly WW III at my house, or at least it sounds like it dry.gif

We aren't paying EXCLUSIVE attention to the little feathered buggers and they think THEY are the be all and end all of the earth and the universe revolves around THEM!! huh.gif **and it does, doesn't it????* dry.gif

Think about it...What do children do when you're on the phone? Why should our fids be any different? biggrin.gif wink.gif

Lots of different theories, but how to actually fix the problem, not so many.

I think our fids think the phone is some foreign monster that is taking our attention away from them and they don't want to share us with anyone, so they either scream and yell for our attention or bite us or the phone to get us away from the "danger" biggrin.gif

Imagine what I go through with 9 parrots and 3 of them being noisey cockatoos when I'm on the phone, I also get the Hello...Hellooooooo from a couple of them when the phone rings and I get the Good-bye...Bye Bye from them too. There's been many times people have called and heard the birds and asked me about them. In fact the message on my answering machine has the birds chiming in and it sounds like I live in a jungle.
Sometimes it gets so bad that I have to go outside on the porch in order to be able to have a conversation. Oh what we do for our fiddies. biggrin.gif tongue.gif

Mine always chatter when I am on the phone. it is called COMPETING FOR MOMMY'S ATTENTIION.

Here is a great story for you. This happened months ago. I called up Pizza Hut to place an order. A male was on the other line. Ok, so I am placing an order and Nikki starts calling out "Gimme a kiss! Gimme a Kiss! (smooch smooch smooch)." I was so embarassed. I don't know if the guy heard but man what a story. Nikki flurting with the Pizza Hut guy! laugh.gif

No one at my house could ever call me from the house and lie and say they were somewhere else...I can always hear the FIDs in the background. I know when my hubby and/or son are calling from home, the birds are hollering. They are just like kids. They can be entertaining themselves quietly and contentedly until we get on the phone; then they start screeching, squawking and hollering for attention. Ha, try talking to the computer guy for computer support while Marla hollers into the receiver! I wonder how many QP owners he talks to every day?? tongue.gif

KIDS first, now FIDS, I'll never be an empty nester!

When I'm on the phone Pico will squack so loud and bite his foot. He wants all my attention. If I'm talking to someone near him he will imatate me loudly. It's quite entertaining. They are like little children.

When I am on the phone Joey sits there saying quite loud "ok...ok...ok...ok...ok...ok..." I say "ok" a lot on the phone, so I guess it is just natural when I'm in the phone for him to reapeat it. lol Quakers are such characters.

Hedwig is just now in the last few days, trying to talk. going on 6 months old I guess that is about right. So anyway he has yet to try to "out talk" me on the phone yet. But I know it is coming. He did attack the phone today and tried to get between me and the phone. So I had to put him back to his cage. But maybe it is just his personality coming out. He also thought it would be fun to run dobby, my dog, off the couch today. Never done that before either. I guess he is laying claim to me. Oh boy, here we go???

My feathered kids hate the phone and the newspaper and aren't real happy with the computer..... It's 4:30 in the afternoon and they are taking a nap... so I can be on the computer without much fuss... but if the phone was to ring they would be right on it, fussing up a storm!!!!!
