Hi I am Christian I am from Indianapolis,Indiana. I want a Quaker so bad, I need to do all my research first. That is why I joined this forum! I currently don't have any birds but I have experience with Budgies.

Hi Christian,

I am new to this site, but not new to birds.
It's good that you are researching before buying. They are a great responsibility, (like children), but unlike children, they never learn to take care of themselves, go to school for hours every day, go to friends for sleep-overs, (giving you a break), never leave home. You have to find someone responsible to take care of them if you want to go on vacation, you should not smoke around them, and you have to be prepared for some expense, (regular new toys, occasional vet bills, grooming accessories, cages, food, etc).
But on the up side. My boyfriend bought his first bird when he was the ripe old age of 45, knew nothing about birds, and has done really well. (He has however said, that he had no idea how much work they were and would not get another one). But he does love his Quaker, and they are good companions to each other. remeber that a Quaker can live 30 years. Where do you want to be in 30 years and will a parrot fit in?
Good Luck.

Welcome,
The best advice I can give is get a hand raised hand fed weened bird. Find a breeder or a shop that has been doing it for awhile. Ask around.
Also the breeding cycle is about to end and there will not be any more babies till spring so if you want one freshly weened it is either now or spring time. But I wouldn't want to rush you, it is a big decision.
