I feed my outdoor birds (and deer) every day. Well, there were nine squirrels who somewhat dominated the eating. They fought it out with the aggressive cardinals. Anyway, I tried to figure out a way to cut down on the squirrels but with little luck. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that fewer and fewer squirrels were showing up. Then last night I saw why when this big old hawk flew by. Now there seems to be one scrawney little squirrel left and he has a big sore on his side. I guess the hawk just missed on him. Nature can be cruel and it is sad, but that is the way it is. The birds and deer have certainly benefitted from this, but the squirrels have paid a tremendous price. I am sure that they will be back in full force in a year or so, and then the hawk will be back in the neighborhood.

Thanks for the reminder. Today, for the first day, the back yard was full of robin. I counted 15 on the ground at one time. Don't know how long they will hang around.

I do. And he actually had another little one with him yesterday. So there are a couple still around, but its not like it was. Maybe the hawk has or will move on to "greener pastures".

Hawks also go after other small birds and may linger if they have an ample food source.
