Bonnie and Benjy get along really well most of the time and are quite affectionate with each other, but he does get on her nerves sometimes and she'll tell him in no uncertain terms to leave her ALONE.
Tonight, however, it was Benjy telling Bonnie to quit bugging him and it was hilarious. They were beak to beak and doing that budgie thing where it looks like they're kissing and I had just said to Clyde, "Awww, isn't that cute ..." when Benjy lifted up his little foot, planted it against Bonnie's chest, and PUSHED her away.

Even Clyde stared at them. What the heck?

Generally Benjy follows her around the cage and wherever she lands trying to get some peace, he's right on her tail, chattering like a magpie and trying SO hard to get her attention, and I've seen her peck him and turn her back on him when she's had all she can take. He is a persistent little thing, reminds me of that cartoon character who was always following Spike around saying, "Can we, Spike, can we, huh, Spike, can we????"
So when Benjy did that, Bonnie took a couple of steps backward and was clearly STUNNED. I think it might have hurt her little feelings to be so decidedly rejected, but she does it to him so often that I suppose turnabout is fair play. It wasn't 10 minutes before they were playing together quite cordially, though. Still, whoever heard of a budgie using his foot to push another budgie away???

I always had single budgies -- I didn't know they should have a buddy -- so having these two is my first opportunity to watch budgies interact daily. It's endlessly fascinating.
