Full Version: What Does This Behavior Mean?

My two birds have such different personalities! Sunny (Jenday Conure) will stare at me and sway back and forth. I call this his "cobra" move because it reminds me of what the cobras do for snake charmers. It's pretty comical when he does this. He also takes his long toes and scratches his face like he's thinking. I think this is common conure behavior?

What does the swaying behavior mean?

Thank you!

When he scratches his head he's inviting you to pet him there....people describe that as the "come hither" look. smile.gif

I imagine he dances for you because he likes you. Taz (my cockatiel) dances when he wants me to pick him up. smile.gif

Sun Conures are famous for that dancing. One I used to have did that too. It is a compliment.

Come hither! Certainly makes sense now that ya'll mention it! How funny. From now on i will hear dramatic music in the background while Sunny sways back and forth beckoning me to "COME HITHER!" I love it! These birds are so funny and it is so fun to learn their language!

I have noticed that Sunny does not move his foot if I scratch while he is rubbing his face with his foot, he just rubs and I scratch. HA, gotta love how smart they are!

THANK YOU all!

That just made my morning!

Sunny's bopping away and Buddy's looking at him like he's had one too many and is wearing the lampshade! Thank you, Majj!

You have beautiful birds...I am so jealous. The swaying could be "dancing". My maroon belly conure will dance, especially if you sing to her or music is on, although she mainly bops and "head-bangs". She also does the scratch her head move, I think it's the cutest thing
