The bird I brought home has never even seen a snugly. I have a whole lot of plush fabric that is a cross between felt and maybe cotton. I was thinking it would make the perfect snugly, and I have everything I'd need to make one.
Was wondering if the fabric could potentially be harmful?

It sounds okay to me, that is if the cotton and felt isn't treated with any kind of fabric treatment...you may want to wash it first just to be safe....let us see the snuggly when it is all finished....

If you make your own snuggley make sure that there are no loose strings and keep an eye on for worn area where strings could be a factor that could wrap around toes, feet, or necks. It only takes one loose thread to be a potential killer... Make sure that the thread you use to sew with is all cotton. that way the fibers are short and softer and are less likely to cut tissue before it breaks.

Ok, thanks!
I was planning to use a heavy rope thread to hang the snuggley up with. Is that not advised? Should I use stainless steel instead or another type of metal?

Stainless steel is always recommended for birds... As far as the rope goes, and long as its all natural fibers, not synthetic you'll be fine. You can tell if there's synthetic in a rope by burning the end of it...if it really burns and there's no melty looking spots then its pretty safe to use. Sisal is also a safe rope as well.
